The reason why eBay has such strong buyer protections is because there are so many seller side scams. I don't see any reason why OpenBazaar would be any different.

Wow, watching people set their minds on OpenBazaar and completely ignore any alternatives is quite hilarious. FreeMarket has been out for a few weeks now. The first release was basically an open beta, and the first big update was November 9. It needs more buyers and sellers, but it is definitely showing promise and is functional. It is completely decentralized and runs on the Nxt blockchain. It is not a 'clone' of anything, it is completely original code. https://nxtforum.org/freemarket/Are people actively buying cocaine and heroin with "FreeMarket " right now? I don't care for these products except for the fact that this is the true test of how secure the decentralized marketplace is. FYI..... Bitcoin has already had working decentralized marketplaces for some time now- 4/29/2014 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=589578.0The reason why eBay has such strong buyer protections is because there are so many seller side scams. Multisig arbitration, and ricardian contracts on top of reputation systems.

I'm not knocking this at all, I think it's awesome and want to look into it but off the cuff it raised the issue of silk road - how is it similar/different to that? Is it something that will thwart the cops from going after outlets like silk road since it's p2p or are there failsafes involved to prevent it?
On a lighter note, can we use this individually to set up our own stores to do bitcoin business full time?

Multisig arbitration, and ricardian contracts on top of reputation systems. Unless both sides of a contract can be cryptographically verified that each term has been fulfilled then it will not be of much good. Both multisig arbitration and the reputation system relies on people to continue to be honest. We have seen many times on these forums that people who were previously honest to pull either a long con or to scam large amounts after a history of being honest.

Except arbitration on SR1 and SR2 typically worked really good for almost every transaction over years.... and this is a better version of that.

The reason why arbitration worked so well was because the seller would almost always agree to either give a partial refund or agree to "reship" a portion of the customer's order. This means that either the buyer or the seller was getting something they should not have, even though both parties would be "happy" about the resolution.

That was only in certain cases but regardless, how does that not also apply to OB?
