Is this normal? If it is, I think it's about time to get some blockchain servers up for Bitcoin QT.

I'm frustrated because it corrupted database when I was 2 weeks behind. Right now I'm reindexing my blockchain.

Did you know there are 1,461,501,637,330,902,918,203,684,832,716,283,019,655,932,542,976 possible bitcoin addresses? To put that into perspective, that's greater than the width of the universe in zeptometers (10^-21 meter).

In order to get the maximum amount of activity points possible, you just need to post once per day on average. Skipping days is OK as long as you maintain the average.

I just installed it on my iMac about a month ago and it took almost 5 days to download the whole block chain over a 50+ Mb connection.  I didn't have any issues with data corruption though.

Yes it can take a while to download.  It is only getting bigger.

You can use a lightweight wallet without it.   Or wait for it to catch up.

Don't use bitcoin qt then. You'll need to update it all the time otherwise. Just get a lite client or use blockchain.info.

Nope it is not normal. It takes just a few hours for the whole reindex process to complete on my 3-year-old pc. Unless you are running bitcoin qt on a very old machine, you shouldn't expect to spend days on reindex.

You can download the blockchain from other places or you can use wallets that have no need for the blockchain. Downloading from other places will increase the speed of the download.

Here you can download the blockchain directly https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=145386.0
