Utilizo o cliente Electrum portatil, gostaria de saber qual a maneira certa de atualiza-lo sem perder as informações e configurações.

Não seria só o caso de se substituir o arquivo executável do programa? (da mesma forma que acontece com a wallet-qt?)

Ele notifica quando tem atualização.
É só baixar o novo executável portátil e sair usando, ele vai carregar a wallet normalmente ou pedir pra carregar uma caso seja uma nova estação.
Só note que o executável antigo ainda permanece lá e nem vai ser sobrescrito porque os nomes normalmente vem diferente, então caso tenha problemas com a nova versão, a antiga ainda estará lá para usar.
