Just a seasonal issue here to get off my chest...
Here in the US, black Friday is approaching, so naturally lots of people are on Craigslist to sell their old TVs to make room for a new one. Have you seen this? I'm browsing through lots of ads from people trying to sell their 200 pound, standard def, tubes for $50 or more. They'll even throw in the matching early '90s wood armoire for free!
So my question to any of these people is: do you really think we're all that stupid?
Two points you need to be aware of...
- 99.99% of the population sees an old CRT television as worthless. Literally devoid of any value whatsoever. The other 0.01% don't even know what CRT means, nor would they understand the difference between standard and HD. Unfortunately, these people also don't own computers with Internet access nor do they drive cars, so they're not coming to pick it up from you.
- Charities and poor people don't want them either. The family down the street with the unemployed, alcoholic father, and the single mother with 4 kids across town probably own better televisions than you do.
If I had a CRT lying around my place, which I don't, I would literally pay someone $10 to take it away for me.
I guess these are the same people who hold yard sales and label their old VHS tapes for $3 a piece and $400 for their old, pet stained sofa (hey, it was $600 brand new 10 years ago!)
