Reading this makes me remember how Robocop was a very good parody at the reality of Municipal Authorities scrambling for money by privatizing public services, in Robocop's example The Police department.  It looked ridiculous at first but seeing the state of current Detroit, how far is that concept from reality nowadays?

Rather than being backed up by the power of a government (like most money) or the lies of angry robots (Bitcoin), TEM units are based around the idea of a "local exchange trading system.
