If not, could we make one?

I'm fairly new to BCT obviously, so forgive me if this is an obvious answer  Grin

Yes, it's called the announcement sub forum.

Really? Lol, I know the altcoin market in general is pretty bad right now, but it's come to this?

yes, search for graveyard or something with necro

This seems a bit more serious, thank you!

It's a chore to maintain the list and activity in the thread tailed off earlier this year as the number of altcoin launches spiralled.

“abandoned” is a tough call because it resists definition and is difficult to demonstrate canonically. “dead” is only a smidgin less challenging definition-wise, we've settled on ...

There's a list of “inactive coins” on Minkiz, very informal because it's rare that one can be completely confident that a given coin isn't being curated by a small functioning network somewhere in an obscure corner of the intertubes.

https://minkiz.co/coin/inactive/

What is the point of listing all the coins that have been abandoned?

If you're looking to invest, don't look beyond Top 20 or even Top 10 at coinmarketcap.com to play safe with your money. Other than that, why would you need a list of abandoned coins, there must be too many of them not to care about.

@gjhiggins: Thanks for the info, I'm going to be looking into the thread and site you posted for sure.

The reason I ask is that I'd like to someday get more into crypto development. Rather than fork or clone another existing coin yet again like other dev's getting into the space, I feel it might be more worth my while to take an "abandoned" coin, buy up all I can as cheap as I can, and work on it from there to make my profit as opposed to devising some type of elaborate ICO or premine to compensate my efforts. An "abandoned coin thread" would be the beginnings of my efforts of finding a coin to take over and revitalize instead of starting from scratch.

Not looking to invest or trade any of them. I'd like to find an abandoned coin and take it over and build on to it.

I like the list for abandoned coins would be nice to see. Someone pick up some of those, and fork them rather than just creating more coins to be abandoned.

Exactly. I'd like to be that someone Smiley it'd still be a TON of work, but would be less hassle on the community, and could even possibly make others some money who originally lost hope in their holdings of a coin I give a rebirth to. Is a different approach to altcoin development I think more dev's in the space should be taking.

Here is Black Dragon Coin, it was just recently abandoned. Lots of potential to expand it since its just a plain vanilla coin.

Thanks alot for this, this link is EXACTLY what I was looking for :
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=588413.0;all

Thank you.

Now to go through them all, study and form some doco about the tech specs of each and try to form a decision on which would be the easiest to pick up on. See which still have websites, hosted code, and any other related technical resources available for them. I imagine alot of the coins code repo's will either be closed or simply deleted.

If you are prepared to spend some time researching you can find loads of dead coins at the bottom of the list at this link http://coinmarketcap.com/all/views/all/

The coins with loads of question marks next to them are probably dead or dying. For example in the screenshot below etoken has loads of question marks next to it.

Here is one of the last posts in it's thread.

Bitte addnodes mein wallet ist not syc
it's dead
