For me,
Under 0.2 BTC (Under 100$) :- Online wallet, whose private keys are not under my control. Allows for faster transactions 0.2 to 2 BTC (100 to 1000$) :- Paper wallet/Brain wallet with encryption with 10-15 char password.
What are your 'thresholds' ? What should I do if I ever get 2+ BTC ? What about at 10,000$ (20 BTC) or more ?

I'm about the same because anything more than 2BTC is difficult to spend immediately so it's a good idea to stash it, also I'd seriously consider investing in some sort of passive income with that amount of money.

Mhm, so you make a new cold wallet every time you want to spend a single mBTC ?

Mhm, so you make a new cold wallet every time you want to spend a single mBTC ? I rarely make transactions that small.

Buy a new computer set or laptop, new installed os and antivirus. Open your wallet there, make sure your connection is encrypted, after you send the bitcoins to the new wallet disconnect it from the internet. If you want to back up burn your wallet to a clean new dvd or print your private to a paper using a new printer connected directly to the computer. Don't use any usb or dvd on this computer again.

I gave my cold storage wallets long and strong passwords, while my wallets that I use to send/receive btc have a very easy pass.

Encrypted storage regardless of the amount. Because .1 BTC will be worth a couple thousand one day. Must collect the precious BTC!
