The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

I'm all for any big name companies jumping on board. I think getting big well-known and trusted corporations involved will be great to keep bitcoin's name out there and 'legitimize' it with the general public.

I am surprised that these companies haven't come out with mining solutions yet. Or have they?

not yet.

I'm sure larger name companies will get involved eventually, but would that be a good thing? Would they be able to manufacture mining products cheaper and better?

Would be weird seeing bitcoin miners in store on the high street. I wonder if that would ever happen? Would be nice if the little people could ever contribute to mining again but I don't think that's possible now sadly.
