Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

Sorry, I dont know much about blockchain.info. I usually catch these misstakes when people talk about blockchain, but actually want to talk about blockchain.info.

Contact their support [1] if you have questions about that account.

If you want to switch to a proper wallet, like bitcoin core, electrum, multibit, etc., the best way to transfer your coins is to just make a transaction. This might cost you a bit in fees, but its the safest and easiest way. Just setup a local wallet of your likeing, make sure you understand how to create a backup, test if you could restore a backup and transfer your coins over.

You can install desktop client if you are running Mac [1] or you can install plugin in chrome or mozilla [2]. Or you can use RPC [3]. See the comparison : Ways to access Blockchain.info wallet.

[1] https://blockchain.info/wallet/desktop-client
[2] https://blockchain.info/wallet/browser-extension
[3] https://blockchain.info/api/json_rpc_api  , https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=844419.0

If you prefer using bitcoind, then open notepad, copy and paste the following and add correct details:

Code:
rpcconnect=rpc.blockchain.info
rpcport=443
rpcssl
rpcuser=your wallet identifier
rpcpassword=your password.

And, click Save as and change Save as type to All Files and then save the files as bitcoin.conf in the data directory - %Appdata%/Bitcoin in windows, ~/.bitcoin/ in Linux and ~/Library/Application Support/Bitcoin/ in Mac ( Detailed guide on opening data directory : https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Data_directory ). Then go to Bitcoin data directory, right click on bitcoin.conf (the one you saved) and change the permission to read-only file. Then open command prompt, navigate to the daemon in installed directory(default in windows in C:\Program Files\Bitcoin\daemon) . Then write
Code:
bitcoind getinfo
. I hope it will work.

If you are using the above method, the private key will be synced with the server when signing messages and sending BTC. So it isn't a good idea.

P.S. If you meant anything else, just avoid this post. Wink

Uhhm, getting blockchain data? You can just wait for peers to connect and then your wallet will auto-sync. About the blockchain.info wallet, try the Chrome plugin for the wallet itself (if you are using Chrome). There are other methods of accessing it, but I'm not familiar with those so I'll suggest what I am familiar with.

I have posted that in the post above. Here is the link to find mozilla/chrome plugin : https://blockchain.info/wallet/browser-extension . Please don't install Blockchain.info plugins from other sources.
