I just started learning about mining so what does GH/S mean? Like someomne on ebay is selling a bitmain Antminer U2 (Set of 10) Bitcoin Miner + 10 port USB Hub and says it has an operating range of 1.6 to 2.2 GH/s. They are also overclockable to 2.3 to 2.4 GH/s, but not recommended. How many bitcoins is that? What hardware would you recomend for me?

GHs is the short form of Giga Hash per second. If the power of a miner is 10 GHs, then it means it can create 10*1024^9 hashes per second to check if the correct hash is found. To know how many bitcoins your hash power can generate, you may like to use this calculator => https://alloscomp.com/bitcoin/calculator. People started with solo mine, then they did pool mine and now they are shifting to cloud mining or hosted mining, where you remotely buy hash power. Currently the lowest offer in cloud mining industry is made by Cloud Mining Website, which is 0.001 BTC/Ghs.

h/s refers to hashes per second and a Gigahash/second refers to 10⁹ Hashes per second. Similar to GHz it gives you an indication how fast the hardware is. This can not be directly converted to bitcoin.

I dont know. Why would you want hardware in the first place? What makes you think that you need this ancient hardware?

You need new efficient miners to profit in mining. Bitcoin is not a get ritch scheme. To make good btc mining you have to approach it like a business. I end up selling old and buying new equipment every 4-6 months. Just starting out and learning about mining, I would recommend:

Both of these are quiet and not too costly to run. There are more efficient miners, but they are expensive. Mining is fun and educational, but not that profitable these days unless you run it like a business as some of us do.

Just the hardware alone is overpriced. They cost 0.51 and >1$ per Gh. You can get that cheaper from cloudmining services.

^ just starting out most people like a physical miner at their house. I was just suggesting a good place to start mining for fun. You just don't get that first miner feeling and excitement from cloud mining.
