Yes i know, yr exspecting answers to those questions right in this post, simple easy to read and understand answers.
I do apologize for not giving you any answers to those questions in this post but i am gonna give you some advice :

Take some time and google about them, make up your own mind about them.

Because in the weeks to come the topic of Masternodes, what they are, what they do, how many of them there are and how profitable
they can become will get more and more interesting to follow.....

Thanks for dropping by and reading this and have a nice day

I'm kind of curious, but none of the links in the ANN work:

Quote

I think I've heard about 1000 masternodes, which at the current price of about 0.007 btc and 1000 drk per masternode gives about 7000 btc tied up in masternodes. Since the anonymization feature requires at least two hops, then mixing can be de-anonymized with at most half of masternode compromised? This means the entire network could be de-anonymized for around $3-4M? Maybe significantly less if half of the network of masternodes doesn't need to be compromised. Law enforcement in Ireland apparently grabbed $18M in btc as a result of the recent SR2.0 bust:
Quote
That's likely how Irish authorities got information required to stage a drug raid yesterday in Dublin, seizing approximately $200,000 worth of LSD, Ecstasy, and other drugs as well as $18 million in bitcoin.
http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2014/11/feds-claim-silkroad-2-0-taken-down-by-social-engineering-coup/

Does anyone have some working links to masternode status sites? Anyone offer some insight on what fraction of masternodes need to be compromised before the system is completely broken? I'd be interested to know how much btc it would take to completely break the masternode scheme (one thing I certainly didn't take into account is the depth of sell orders and how much drk you could buy without significantly raising the price).

A random small subset of Masternodes is selected from the total number of Masternodes each round, so no it doesn't work like a hashpower attack that scales linearly, it's inherently orders of magnitude more secure than mining.

Darksend attack probabilities:

Instant TX attack probabilities:

You would need a huge majority of Masternodes to have even a small chance of either attack being successful.

Could you provide your sources used for calculation? Also, I guess you don't know of any functioning masternode status/explorer website?

Source for the first pic is basic math Smiley

2nd pic is from Evan Duffield's whitepaper on Instant TX: https://www.darkcoin.io/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/InstantTX.pdf

There's an excellent Masternode monitoring (and lots of other stuff) site here: https://drk.mn/masternodes.html

To conclude this post i decided to provide some usefull Masternode info links as the info about Darkcoin's Masternodes was perhaps not all that easy to gather
when i first created this post :

General Masternode info

https://darkcointalk.org/threads/new-masternode-explorer-website.3068/

Masternode Payment schedule :

if(nHeight > 158000) ret += blockValue / 20; //25.0% - 2014-10-23
if(nHeight > 158000+((576*30)*1)) ret += blockValue / 20; //30.0% - 2014-11-23
if(nHeight > 158000+((576*30)*2)) ret += blockValue / 20; //35.0% - 2014-12-23
if(nHeight > 158000+((576*30)*3)) ret += blockValue / 40; //37.5% - 2015-01-23
if(nHeight > 158000+((576*30)*4)) ret += blockValue / 40; //40.0% - 2015-02-23
if(nHeight > 158000+((576*30)*5)) ret += blockValue / 40; //42.5% - 2015-03-23
if(nHeight > 158000+((576*30)*6)) ret += blockValue / 40; //45.0% - 2015-04-23
if(nHeight > 158000+((576*30)*7)) ret += blockValue / 40; //47.5% - 2015-05-23
if(nHeight > 158000+((576*30)*9)) ret += blockValue / 40; //50.0% - 2015-07-23

if(nHeight > 158000+((576*30)*15)) ret += blockValue / 40; //57.5% - 2016-01-23
if(nHeight > 158000+((576*30)*17)) ret += blockValue / 40; //60.0% - 2016-03-23

Revised Masternode Payment schedule :

per mined block :

45% goes to masternodes
45% goes to miners
10% goes to decentralised budget system

Number of masternodes 18th of januari 2015 : 2034

Number of masternodes 25th of october 2015 : 3278

Usefull masternode info : https://dashtalk.org/threads/darkcoin-cm-free-masternode-monitoring-tool.4244/

Masternode current role :

The masternodes today have become even more important and also carry a lot more responsebility then before due to the
implementation of the decentralised budget system. The masternode owners essentially received voting power over
Dash's decentralised budget proposals.

Its a very flexible system where masternode owners can vote yes or no to any budget proposal to either get it accepted
or denied of blockchain funding. If a masternode owner first voted yes and it turns out the budget proposal does not work
as intended or is lacking results the masternode owner can then vote no and with enough no votes the budget proposal
disappears from the funded budget list.
