those cards vent very little out of that back exhasut. Most of the air is forced through the 2 slits on top for each core.

Huh? I crank the fan on my 5970 to 100%, and you can FEEL the air blow out the back. I normally run them at 40%, however, but you can still feel the air vent out the back...
Any air that goes out the back of a 5970 cooler isn't going to be the hot air. Click below for embiggened version.

The fan pulls in air through the center of the squirrel cage and it's ducted through the closed vapour chamber fins. Some might leak out of the circular ducting, but that will be the cool air that was just drawn in. The openings on the back of the card are just for show, they're not actually inputs or exhausts.

Have you ever used a 5970?

You are about to get a lesson from the many miners on here that actually have......the vents are ANYTHING but show.....

Wait, are you talking about the vents closest to the fan?  Or the metal grate by the DVI ports?

What purpose do you think the vents on the back serve?

You must have edited between me clicking on the page and clicking reply. I'm talking about the plastic vents on the back of the card.

although it does look like it's being blocked, it actually vents great as there is a giant hole for a PSU there...

I get the same temps as the others; given the only problem with the temps i have is due to the Climate from outside, as they are sitting in a garage and I leave that garage door open 90% of the time... so it's never a problem.

I think you and me have different terms for "back of the card". To me, back of the card was the back of the PC. I see where ur coming from now! Tongue

1300 is as low as i can go on each of those 4.

I can always take 1 5970 out of each rig to meet your price range of 1,150 though.

LOL.....that kind of blows my calculations to hell!

i can deduct the power supply from each rig then and make it $1225. That way you still get your per mh/s rate...

I always assume 700 MH/s per 5970......so 2,100 per rig.

I really do not want to go buy more PSU's.......*said in whiney ass voice*

I get a stable 725-740 mh/s total per 5970 with those settings in BAMT.

.60 is generally reserved for newer hardware though (read 7970's)

My best offer is on the table.....just let me know!
