Jumbucks Announces a New Official Developer On The Team

Jumbucks is proud to announce a new official developer on the team, Luke Williams.

Founder's statement (Julian Yap):

A good developer is hard to find, especially in the realm of cryptocurrency.  A good developer should not only possess the right skill set (or potential to acquire this), but also have a correct mentality surrounding the goals and ethics of the project, in addition to the principles for which cryptocurrencies stand.  When I first spoke to Luke, we hit it off immediately as it became clear that he clearly understood my goals for Jumbucks as a cryptocurrency.  Over the past several weeks we have discussed several longer-term projects which we would like to explore for Jumbucks,  about which we both saw eye to eye.  Luke is the kind of developer who knows how to bring a project from inception to completion and oversee its future growth.  He is also the first developer I have asked to come on board with Jumbucks and we are very excited to have him on the team.

Luke has over 10 years of coding experience, and is proficient in: C, C++, Perl, Python, and Node.js, to name only a few. He is a huge Slackware Linux fan (user since '00), and maintains a number of scripts to assist with package management and dependency resolution. His experience also includes security, web development, software development, and has a background in science. When not working on various open source projects (such as Iquidus Explorer), he designs and implements customized systems for chemistry laboratories in New Zealand. He is very passionate about cryptocurrencies and envisions a future where many of societies' core systems are completely transparent, decentralized, and running on blockchains.

The best way to contact Luke is through IRC: xocel, or Twitter: @iquidus.

"The full power of blockchain technology has yet to be released, its benefits will extend far beyond currency. The JBS blockchain provides a great platform upon which new services and systems can be built. I'm very excited to join the Jumbucks team."
Luke Williams, Jumbucks developer

Jumbucks is a Fair Launch cryptocurrency which launched without an IPO and with zero premine.  Jumbucks currently runs as 100% Proof of Stake, and is currently traded on Bittrex, Cryptsy and will be available at launch on the upcoming AltMarket.com.  Find out more information at GetJumbucks.com.

Jumbucks Announces Official Raspberry Pi and Linux builds; bootstrap.dat file

The development team at Jumbucks are currently working on a larger project for the coin (and one that will benefit other Proof of Stake coins) so we wanted to provide something for the community along the lines of where we are going.

We were very excited when the new Raspberry Pi 2 came out as this new model had 4 cores and bumped up the RAM to 1 GB.  We instantly ordered some to test things out such as active staking for the past few weeks and were pleased with the results.  Staking works great with Jumbucks on the Raspberry Pi 2!

Keeping the hacker spirit alive, we are announcing official Jumbucks builds for Raspberry Pi and Linux.

These are available now at the Jumbucks 1.7 Release page on Github.

The latest upload files are:
Code:
d7bc7c926f14458c21f8571ddfb0b679  Jumbucks-1.7-RPi.tar.xz
a3917738e4fd5735bf89b68702fdcf07  Jumbucks-1.7-linux32.tar.xz
21ccde0cceb8f7109edf05d02c4dc92a  Jumbucks-1.7-linux64.tar.xz
0a747ca4dc608a043adb31147a396e26  bootstrap.dat.xz

We have also added a bootstrap.dat file.  bootstrap.dat allows a new Jumbucks client (not synced) to rapidly import the initial blocks from a local file instead of slowly downloading blocks from random peers. This significantly reduces the time it takes to get a client synced with the current blockchain (minutes instead of hours).  Simply having bootstrap.dat in Jumbucks' expected data directory will make your initial block sync much faster.

Regardless of your operating system use the following steps to make use of the bootstrap.dat file:

  • Download bootstrap.dat.xz.
  • Verify the integrity of bootstrap.dat.xz with the checksums.
  • Decompress to obtain bootstrap.dat.
  • Put it into the Jumbucks datadir. This is the same folder that contains wallet.dat and the blocks folder.
  • Delete bootstrap.dat.old if you want to recover some storage space.

Extract bootstrap.dat

Linux

Code:
xz -d bootstrap.dat.xz

Mac

You can obtain xz from Homebrew or MacPorts.

Windows

7Zip is a free utility that can decompress .xz files. The latest version of WinRAR also supports .xz files.

Copy bootstrap.dat to data directory

Copy bootstrap.dat to your data directory. After Jumbucks has used bootstrap.dat, the file will be renamed to bootstrap.dat.old; at this point you can choose to delete it or keep it.

Linux

Jumbucks' data directory is located in ~/.coinmarketscoin/ by default.

Mac

Jumbucks' data directory should be located in ~/Library/Application Support/Coinmarketscoin/.

Windows

Go to Start>Run (or press WinKey+R) and run: explorer %APPDATA%\Coinmarketscoin
Jumbucks' data directory will open. "AppData" and "Application Data" are hidden by default in Windows.

Here is the process snapshot of a Raspberry Pi 2 that is actively staking!

This is very cool.  I have a few old Raspberry Pis lying around - never really found anything exciting to do with them - might just get hold of RP2 just for fun so I can try this out!

I see on getjumbucks.com that this coin is a fork of ShadowCash. Then what does that mean the proof of developper of jumbucks if it's only a fork?

Guys, if you want updates, check the original coin ShadowCash:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=745352.msg11002986#msg11002986

There are some updates in our Github.

We've been working on stuff. I've posted some details on our Twitter account @getjumbucks and IRC is a good place to chat as well (#jumbucks on Freenode).

But thanks for stopping by.

I see on getjumbucks.com that this coin is a fork of ShadowCash. Then what does that mean the proof of developper of jumbucks if it's only a fork?

The codebase was originally forked from SDC yes, just as SDC was originally forked from Blackcoin. There have been many commits since the initial fork, I'm not quite sure what you are trying to get at here? (as everything is a fork of BTC). Both myself and jyap have attached our real names to this project, which can not be said about most coin devs.

We are working on a number of things, ranging from improvements to various parts of the coin codebase to jbs service infrastructure, and of course the Pi project which is getting most of my focus currently (see the @getjumbucks twitter for sneak peeks at the next phase of the Pi project).

Please keep in mind we don't get paid and it was a 100% fair launch, so our time/attention gets shared with other work (bills dont pay themselves). We spend a decent amount of time helping out other developers/projects in the crypto community etc and have various real life commitments (we are people too ;P).

The jbs team is in this for the long run, we have big plans for the future, and the right skillsets to make them happen.

We don't update this thread very often but jumbucks is being very actively developed. To stay up to date follow @getjumbucks on twitter, or visit us in #jumbucks on freenode. We are also in the process of setting up a jbs slack community.

Jumbucks Development Update

I wanted to give a quick update.  Jumbucks is over 7 months old now (launched September 2nd, 2014) but I've always considered it very early for cryptocurrencies in general.  That's taking the long term view to digital currency adoption.

We've seen a lot of coins come and go so when I started my own coin I really wanted to make something which would "stand the test of time".  Longevity is still a goal and a constant challenge but that is something a coin developer should accept and rise to.  Their goal should always be to provide more value to the coin and in my view, in the most ethical way possible.

A lot of the possible security flaws with Proof of Stake come with a poor Proof of Stake network where not many coins are staking and bad actors can exploit the network.  Thankfully Jumbucks isn't in this position and has performed very well in terms of stake percentage (typically over 50%).  This is something I planned for when I implemented 8% Proof of Stake interest.  My thinking was that this was a good balance between early adopter staking, long term investing, coin distribution, inflation, etc…

One thing I want to do is move towards Proof of Stake 2.0 as implemented in Blackcoin.  This addresses some more possible security vulnerabilities.  I'll be testing this out with certain changes so that staking remains smooth and stable.  We have implemented quite a few code changes over time such as RPC additions and fixes, the MAX_BLOCK_STAKE_REWARD setting, Gitian build scripts to the Jumbucks code base.

In the future, should cryptocurrencies take off we'll want to have dedicated devices to perform our staking duties.  We don't believe in centralized cloud staking as this is insecure and gives too much power to a single entity.  We're working on something to address this and make Proof of Stake more safe, secure and automated.  We'll also be discussing this with some other coin communities as well so they can benefit from our work.

The MAX_BLOCK_STAKE_REWARD setting in Jumbucks also discourages centralized staking by capping rewards and encouraging a well distributed Proof of Stake network.  The MAX_BLOCK_STAKE_REWARD setting also prevents possible Proof of Stake coin inflation attacks which can be caused by single entities such as exchanges who are in control of a large amount of idle coins and can mint a large amount of coins.  There has been examples of this happening and this is a real threat.  I've started a short whitepaper as well which outlines the MAX_BLOCK_STAKE_REWARD setting.

Another thing we'll do is move our primary real-time communications system from IRC to Slack.  Slack has quite a few benefits such as more modern integrations and should be inviting for newcomers.  We actually have Jumbucks Slack set up already but we want to test out a few things (such as a public gateway, interactive elements, bots) before opening it up to the public.  The free version of Slack is limited to 5 integrations so we want to make sure we use those to the fullest.

I Tweeted at one point early on that I wasn't going to comment about price for JBS. That still remains true and I've refrained from retweeting or mentioning anything price related.  Ultimately price should reflect value so we want JBS to be viewed as a long term coin with dedicated developers.  Basically JBS is a coin that I would personally invest in, had someone else created it.

JBS was always viewed as my experimental coin and the work is also intended to add value be it through more services, better infrastructure and so forth.  I spend a lot of time checking out various blockchain related projects and discussing them with the other Jumbucks developer @iquidus.  One thing we really want to do is something along the lines of a distributed hash table for data storage, tied to the Jumbucks blockchain.

Thank you for your support and for following along.

- Julian

Agreed.  I like that this is moving on slowly and steadily and without hype.  Whilst in the past I used to invest in every shiny new coin (the glory days of early 2014!) now I try to invest in people that I trust and believe in.  As long as Julian is involved with this it will continue to have my support.

Hell yes....just quiet the same with me when seeing a new coin Cheesy....but currently there are too may of them, really like a bunch of mushrooms during raining, become too hot too handle at the market 'till got loss for the bucks, even though sometimes that's the art of trading right? Smiley
Tired of that, it's about time to keep our money at the right one and I'm really sure that jbs could be the one.

A little bit scary now when jbs at the first page of bittrex, hope that those whales will not make a play for a dumb instead of a dump. But it's ok, bought jbs at half price of the present time and i will keep it, not much but valuable, a truly valuable coin to be kept.

Will make a donation to Julian as the dev if he doesn't mind with my tiny amount Smiley

Keep rockin' guys  Wink
