I have a spare raspberry pi anything interesting or cool i could do with it

I don't know about how to do anything cool with the Pi, but I just use mine as a safe computer to store and use my bitcoins and just boot it up whenever I need to spend them.

have you try using swap memory ? maybe on harddisk ? Yeah the whole thing grinds to a crawl. Even compiling the source code overflows into swap space.

I only had a SD card mounted. I run a full node on another machine now which is more suitable.
