You can tip people that have an address in their profile or signature. A tipping mechanism built in would be a nice thing but with the apparently always forthcoming forum upgrade you probably won't see any major changes like that in the near future.

Would of course be a wonderful feature to have, but maybe more trouble than it's worth for the owner.

I agree... I think we should start crowdsourcing a new forum design, something created by the community opensource and decentralized.
Quick! to the meta section!

Well before sig campaigns that was what the personal sig is for We can still see them if they are set in profile But It might be a nice idea for the new forum software. @segvec know the Theymos post didn't see his opinion on it one way or the other.

You can on reddit and sites like that. I was thinking about this too. The site should have multisig for bounties too. Forum admins or hero members could immediate and earn a small tip for that service. Also implement a coloured coin or counter party asset for points.

It could happen right now.... See my sig. If people would give up their signature campaigns, everyone could place a link in their sig.

Speaking of tips, I just put up the new coinbase tip button on my site. I'd love some support from the community to see if it works :-) http://coinedbits.com/reply with your impressions of the tip process. There are two options, 1) from coinbase account balance. 2) from bitcoin address. Let me know what you think of the placement of the tip button as well. I'm worried people won't notice it.

You can on reddit and sites like that. According to theymos it is because it could turn the forum into a "money transmitter" IMO it would also cause significant amounts of spam (begging spam) as the discussions would get cluttered with people asking for tips for their posts

I found the post in the Meta for anyone curious on Theymos position He's neutral I guess but the question is its implementation are we Money Transmitting if we do this. Under the new forum software thread I've thought about that before, but I think that there might be legal problems with that. It might make the forum a "money transmitter".

Surely having a third party one implemented wouldn't cause any trouble? Does reddit or any site who has a PayPal donate button have this concern?

Not to my knowledge H@C I'm actually pretty confident that there would not be any issues but I can see why Theymos would err on the side of caution Reddit and other sites do tips already so can't really see it being an issue here either. If anything though the concern of sites with a paypal donate button is that paypal closes their account (But think the case is a bit different between one site and a donation button and every user having one) Kind of like comparing https://bitcointalk.org/donate.htmlWith a tip to all button.

Yeah, I think it's more of a cautionary measure and theymos is just thinking ahead and trying to cover the forums back for any potential issues. It could cause legal problems if the powers that be try use some bs of needing a licence for the money transmitting etc, but I'm sure we'd be ok with a third party if reditt is and I'd like to see this feature implemented if possible.

Yeah, like the posters above said...The "authorities" might come up with some strange rules in the future concerning tipping. It may not make sense for the owner to go through all that trouble of creating a tipping system only to have it removed later on.

As has been said people post up addresses all the time on here, that's the beauty of Bitcoin, while a software might be convenient it's not very difficult to post up an address given it's only a collection of letters and numbers, even if all third party services for cryptocurrencies were to suddenly shut down we could still send each other money over the internet.

Yes, but it's not very convenient that way. How many people actually get tips on here? Very few. If there was a easy one or two click function to tip tiny amounts of bitcoin (one of the good features about these is sending without fees) then more people would likely do it.

that would be really cool and breath new life into this forum Lolled so hard. Considering that bitcointalk hasn't been improved at all in the past years, I would be surprised if Thermos has any developments for the future in his mind. Does anyone still send money to these crooks btw?
