EBay CEO ‘Very Open’ to Bitcoin, will ‘Likely’ follow PayPal

EBay.com president Devin Wenig has stated he is “very open” to Bitcoin and that eBay “will probably experiment” with the digital currency in the future.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Weng explained that PayPal’s current activities in the space would be mimicked due to the companies’ “long-term” ongoing cooperation. He said:

“Both eBay and PayPal are open to [Bitcoin]—PayPal is experimenting with it—and through our relationship we’re likely to do the same. I am very open to it.”

Seems like they've been saying that for quite a while now. I'll believe it when I see it though, but this is still encouraging news and at least they look to be eying it up and seeing how they can work with it.

This is excellent news and will be fantastic for adoption. I think it's wise for them that Paypal are looking into how they can work with it because it's obvious it could be a threat to them. Better to adopt it rather than try ignore it.

I wish they would just go ahead and accept it. I definitely think ebay/paypal are two of the big companies we really need on our side. It will be very intersting to see how paypal is looking at it. Will they become another payment processor like bitpay etc?

They've been saying this for months, stop falling for this crap, they're trying to hype things up, I suspect even if they do finally accept Bitcoin they'll do a really half-assed job of it, they keep on releasing statements every couple of months to keep people interested in what they have to say, if they were serious about actually accepting Bitcoin they'd have done it ages ago, other companies out there have accepted Bitcoin much faster without trying to hook everybody along like this so go support them.

Paypal's integration with bitcoin is not even half-assed job; many months after their supposedly acceptance of bitcoin, I've yet seen a practical way using bitcoin on their system.

After they finish talking about it and finally adopt it, I may consider discussing the possibility of me adopting eBay.
