Here's an email I just got from Bandcamp after I asked about Bitcoin:

Quote
Hey,

We don't support Bitcoin at the moment, though it is among a host of other payment options we are considering for the future. For now, PayPal it is, though.

For the latest updates, please watch the blog (blog.bandcamp.com) or follow us on Twitter (bandcamp).

Thanks,
Ryan

Seems that if a few more people express an interest they might go for it. Bandcamp and Bitcoin would be a lovely fit. Perhaps drop them an email if you use (or intend to use) Bandcamp to either buy or sell music.

I just bought an album on bandcamp for the first time today.  I will write them a note about bitcoin as a customer.

I had to use paypal with them and I really would have rather used bitcoin.

Warning: this topic has not been posted in for at least 120 days.
Unless you're sure you want to reply, please consider starting a new topic.
I'm not completely sure as I think this topic fits more in the Project Development category of this forum, but that's maybe only a matter of taste and bureaucracy.

I've contacted bandcamp and got a reply. No good news but still being in contact gives you a feel how close they are to beginning to accept BTC one day.

I'll say in short what their view on Bitcoin is since I don't like pasting emails without asking for permission beforehand(date of reply is Jan 29 2013):
They said they are keeping an eye on Bitcoin that it looks like a great idea and that they have several requests to support it. Also that they don't have any immediate plans to support it.
Oh well..

There may still be hope for the 1st decentralized cryptocurrency which is Bitcoin. How to approach different subjects is key to progress.

It would be nice if that happens, and it could be a beginning for online music and Bitcoins working together, iTunes will surely follows.

Bert Jerred - Indie artist just released "Under the Stars" album BY-3.0

Being released under Creative Commons BY-3.0 it is legal to distribute, copy, remix etc. I will listen to the full album. Then if I appreciate the full album I may consider donating in Bitcoin the full amount of $15.

To help in the Bandcamp accepting Bitcoin-campaign I think it will be useful for me to first announce to them that I want to buy Bert Jerred's album on Bandcamp. I will spend some time today to listen to the whole album. I'll report here later(in the same post, edit mode) if I think it is worth my Bitcoin money.

There may still be hope for the 1st decentralized cryptocurrency which is Bitcoin. How to approach different subjects is key to progress.

It's always nice to see more merchants at least acknowledge that they are considering accepting bitcoin. After all I think there's no risk to any company accepting btc providing they use a payment processor.

Hopefully they can see the many benefits of using bitcoin over paypal. I can only imagine the amount of chargebacks they get issued for whatever reason. Bitcoin would put a stop to the fraudulent aspect of this at least.

It is really shocking to realize that a merchant like Bandcamp is yet to approve BTC as a means of payment. Its as if they are not updated on the wide spread acceptability level and confidence that s dawn on bitcoin. The earlier they realize this i think the better for them though this is just my own perspective on this issue.

This is positive (albeit slightly) news. I think we as a community should keep sending emails requesting or asking companies if they will accept bitcoin. They will hopefully then see that there is a demand for it and also look into adopting it.

I don't think it's shocking. There's not many merchants that do accept bitcoin currently but more and more will come around to the technology, especially when they realize the benefits. For now at least we know they're considering it.

I think this idea should be executed for the love of BTC.

People, please realise that this thread is already over 3 years old! Both interesting and sobering that companies wrote those "yeah we're looking into it" mails already back then!

Lol, I didn't even realize. Bloody necrobumps. I think it's time to start bombarding Bandcamp with messages then seeing as they still haven't implemented it years later. What are they actually playing at?

I've said this before, REALLY surprised a company like this hasn't hopped on the BTC wagon yet especially considering the decline in the music industry when combined with fiat currencies.

Quite surprised to see this to be honest as I thought most companies were at least trying to jump on the bitcoin wagon. The reply you got though does seem promising I will admit and again it's a case of having many people who are interested before they will accept so getting people on board to let them know they are interested will hopefully persuade them to change their mind and start accepting.

Considering the growth of bitcoin companies like Bandcamp will certainly reconsider their mind set when they realize the true benefits that has to do with the acceptance of BTC.
