I sent Jake 50 BTC for two 5850s.

He got 51.588 when I sent 50.

I most certainly did not over pay lol I tried to talk him down a BTC or two since the price of BTC went up .30 since we closed our deal.

He thinks its a fee or he thinks I sent it extra to him.  Trying to tell him I am not in this business to give free coins.

Can anyone explain what this is telling us?

Thanks.

The block chain is the main innovation of Bitcoin. It is the first distributed timestamping system.

Just to clarify, I didn't actually get the extra BTC, I got the 50, I am just wondering why the extra transaction is on this transaction ID

The block chain confirms you sent 50 BTC.

On edit:
The "extra" tx is the change back to the sender. He only had an input worth 51.588.  In Bitcoin you have to spend an entire input.

Input:
Unspent output worth 51.588

Output:
50 BTC to you
1.588 BTC back to him.

Input - Output = 0 (so no fee to the poor miners)
Input >= Output so tx is valid.

Also tx don't have to be only to one destination.  If he owed you 50 BTC and me 5 BTC he could have made a tx like this:

Input:
Unspent output(s) worth 56.00

Output:
50 BTC to you
5 BTC to me
0.995 BTC BTC back to him.
Total: 55.995 BTC

Input - Output = 0.005 (fee to miners)
Input >= Output so tx is valid.

It's normal - that is a "change" transaction - since an input must be completely spent, the remainder is sent back to the sender's wallet, but to a new 'change' address.

I am just curious as to what this other transaction is. I've only done a couple of transactions and I've never seen something like this before so I am just wondering why it shows another transaction on this ID.

Thanks for the clarification Smiley
