Hello all.

I've facing with problem.
One year ago I've registered wallet with electrum 1.9.5, made photo of qr-code and stored seed in notepad. In november 2014 I've tried to launch electrum and found it can't connect to a server. then download new portable version of electrum 1.9.8 and copy to its directory old wallet folder. It's successfully connected to server and show all wallet data as old version but I found I fogot my password. With the help of documentation I've tried to restore my wallet from seed and got message "No transaction find" and got empty wallet. Now I can run old version of my wallet on electrum 1.9.5 and new restored wallet on electrum 1.9.8-portable and compare both wallets. I can see that in restored wallet has another addresses without money. I never spend my coins only recive it on addresses generated by old electrum version may be due to this reasom electrum does not found any transactions?
So my question is how to restore coins from my old electrum wallet? restoring from seed does not work proper and I can't remember my password.

Regards, Anthony

Restore from seed does work. You probably did it wrong. I can understand how confusing it might be having two different versions of electrum on the same computer. I suggest upgrading your electrum 1.9.5 version to 1.9.8 and avoiding the use of the portable version. Once you've upgrade post here and I'll tell you how you can restore from seed.

Post the name of your operating system as well.

The seed consists of 12 English words. Is that what you have?

If you can't restore from seed then your only option is to try and remember the password to your wallet (1.9.5 one) and, failing that, hire the wallet recover guy dave to brute force it.

I have 100% right 12 words of seed. Also I've got the same words with recognition tool from my QR-code. So I can assert that the recovery by seed is not working correctly in electrum. And I want to warn users of electrum so that they do not rely on the ability to recover the wallet in the similar case.

Restore from seed works fine if you have the correct seed. Let's try again alright?

Try these steps:

- On windows 8.1 run electrum 1.9.8
- Select file menu > new/restore
- Now you will be shown a file saving dialog box so navigate to a suitable location on your hard drive (perhaps your desktop would be most convenient?) and then enter a file name for the wallet and select save.
- This will show you the new wallet creation wizard. Select "Restore an existing wallet from seed". Then enter the 12 words and follow the process to completion.

(Later when you need to open this wallet use file > open.)

What happens when you do the above steps? Do you see familiar addresses in your wallet? Please also look under receive tab > main account > used.

Then you might be trying the wrong seed. Any chance you have two seeds or that is a seed for Green Address or something else that uses the same seeding algorithm?

did you download the blockchain headers completely? click on the green icon on the lower right corner and check if you have the latest block.

you can try my standalone python script to generate some addresses, and check them manually with blockchain.info
to see if its a problem with the seed itself or with the electrum client on your machine, but make sure to check enough
addresses.

One way out I could think out of this is by having the program installer for the old version. Get a completely new machine and install old version of electrum on that machine. Use the seed to recover your account on that machine installed with old version of electrum

Anyway, as advised by other users, regardless of version, the same seed would point to the same address. Or is there a change on how the python script itself and how they generate address.... The best person to answer this would be Thomas.
