What would people do after doxing someone? I understand why people would dox someone, but what would they do afterwards with the information? I'm seeing quite a few posts regarding doxing, and it's like w0w

The grue lurks in the darkest places of the earth. Its favorite diet is adventurers, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its fear of light. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome jaws to tell the tale.

When you hear of doxing, you also generally hear about malicious assholes calling peoples home phone, sending them junk over mail, contacting employers in hopes that they would get fired.  Doxing is very bad, man.

Well oftentimes the fact that someone has your personal info can be daunting and can be used against you as leverage or in some cases threats and blackmail. If a scammer has been doxxed and caught they'll sometimes send the money back rather than face the prospect of going to jail or retribution/retaliation etc.

Many times the bitter doxxer adds false information in hopes to embarrass and defame a person. Often times this is maliciously done with no real reason other than being a giant, butt hurt anus and to deflect some wrong doing they have perpetrated. Also, I have seen several "doxxing" attempts with horribly inaccurate information and in some case, completely false information.
What I find amusing is these "doxxers" usually hide behind a new account, they don't have the balls to confront the person they are trying to dox or they don't want to be doxxed themselves.  Roll Eyes

When the subject of buying BTC with Paypal comes up, I often remember this:

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Yeah, that often does happen so you have to be careful with the info and what you do with it. If it's correct though it can be valuable and your last line of defence against a scammer. I'd just avoid dealing without a trusted escrow and you should be able to avoid needing to dox someone, though situations can always arise.

Theoretically, someone could dox someone even if they simply disliked them, just to fuck with them then, couldn't they? Is it that easy to get doxed?

Yes, all you do is type their name into Google. Maybe Facebook if you want to take it a step up and pretend you're a big haxxor.

You can use the information to get back the money owned. If you dox the owners of the recent signature campaigns that didn't pay or businesses that failed taking away the investors/clients money, you can hope they will pay.

The government has ways to identify people that are hiding on internet if they really want to. People leave a trail with their web activity that can lead to them if you invest enough time to get a result.

That's fine; idc about the government. Not trying to hide anything. Was just wondering about what commonfolk/tech geeks could do.

Facebook and Google are for very basic learners. Google is a tool you use, but you don't just flat out search.

Find a doxing tutorial, it's a very interesting subject. It's easy to learn but hard to execute if you aren't great at it. Once you have the full dox, there is a ton you can do. You can play around with their online accounts/close them, send pizzas to their house, order shit and have them billed, swat them (easier than it sounds), threaten them, and alot more.

Nothing.

Case study: TradeFortress

The government has ways to identify people that are hiding on internet if they really want to. People leave a trail with their web activity that can lead to them if you invest enough time to get a result.

That's fine; idc about the government. Not trying to hide anything. Was just wondering about what commonfolk/tech geeks could do.
Not much unless they hack your email skype or other communicator or manage to implant a trojan in your pc. One thing can lead to another.
Nowadays even game makers like Blizzard want your name address and phone number.

It's called mass surveillance for a reason... Smiley
