why is bitstamp so cheapskate?

why did they only pay 10k satoshi as a transaction fee?

if I was a miner I wouldn't confirm this transaction Grin

Perhaps they were proving a point? That they can move millions for such low fees. Even more so, they didn't need to even pay fees, due to the sheer size of the transaction it would've had the highest priority.

Well, in that case, we should e-mail "Western Union" that says; "Hey dude, How much you charge to send 82 mil USD"
Probably they would say "A LOT".
Then we can reply; "Hey dude, we already did it just for 4 cents".

This would be hilarious...

It's not as much as you think. Wire transfers go through the Federal Reserve system. Federal Reserve charges business customers very little: $0.70 per transfer, with further discounts for higher volume.

Your bank, however, can charge much more than that. For example Alliant Credit Union charges $25 for an outgoing domestic wire transfer, $50 for an outgoing international wire transfer. Thank God incoming wires are free. Some banks charge a fee ($10-20) even for incoming wires. You get better deals on wire transfer fees from brokerage firms and mutual fund companies. I have a Vanguard account and they don't charge a wire transfer fee if the amount of the wire is over $5,000; the fee is only $5 if the amount is below $5,000. Believe it or not Bitcoin can, in some cases, cost more to send than to wire.

I'm no expert but a glance at the inputs suggests (to me) the accumulation of many, many smaller amounts followed by moving larger total amounts around.

If a lot of people "lost" some bitcoin then I guess tomorrow will bring misleading "BTC hacked" headlines <sigh>

What less sinister explanations are there?

Lot's of LBTC users are reporting hacked accounts todays but also for past week. Many on forums speculating attribution to Malware/keyloggers  as these are the usual suspects. However, I believe there's some else more refined behind recent compromised accounts.

This particular transaction OP has pointed out, is probably from Bitstamp? Does anyone have Solvency report to confirm this?

Bitstamp.

They do this from time to time.

If that's the case, then this time it was ~$81,077,527.00.

Or, as some would say, 5,355 sets of these...

Last time, 194,993 bitcoins worth $147 Million, the tag on blockchain.info was "Shit load of money".

Ha ha.
Somebody has got a sense of humour.
I would never have expected anything like this on blockchain.info.

217,517.63438199 BTC
with a transaction fee of 0.0001 BTC...

that's a 0.0000000459% fee. I'm not sure if anything can compete with that.
