Sorry, but they are junk Cheesy

You would get at most 0.02$ per day so I recommend to you that sell them if maybe someone who is naive will buy them because they are really worth nothing, not even worth trying  Undecided

sell the miner and buy bitcoins with it, with that miner you will never get that much bitcoins as you can buy with it's value, btw, it will not even cover your electricity bill, it is just junk, don't ask for tips if you don't want to hear the truth

Not everything has to be done for profit. The OP is clearly aware that his equipment is obsolete, but he's keen to try anyway.
Long time ago I bought a USB block erupter and did some mining being 100% aware that it's not profitable. Just wanted to see how it works etc, and have no regrets.

@OP - I won't be able to help you, as I haven't mined in a long time. It may be best to post it in the 'mining' section of the forum and state as many details as you can (operating system, have you installed drivers, what's the version of cgminer etc).

Just thinking that is likely that newest versions of cgminer and bfgminer don't support the old block erupters (just my guess tho).

First off, you'll probably want to get the Devs attention if you still can't get these miners working, so you'd post in the Miner Support section of this forum:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=40.0

Second, if you're serious about mining as a hobby, not for profit (there is none) then you probably could send a PM to the lead developers of cgminer, either ckolivas or Kano.

Third, if you just want to mine without hassle, I'd highly recommend getting a secondhand Antminer S1 or S3, those are two easiest "plug and play" miners on the market.

OK.  So I've tried everywhere.  First off please don't tell me that my miners are junk...it's all I could afford right now.  Second...I've got 4 Asicminer Block Erupters and 1 Antminer u2 (?).  Yes, they're plugged into a powered USB with a fan on them.  I've tried bfgminer AND cgminer and can't get either of them to work.  I've followed the instructions that i've been able to find...which is few and far between and old.  Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Also, when I do get the cgminer (i think) to run, it says that they're too slow to be an icarus and calibrating, but then I get nothing.  I see that they're working, but that they're not totally connecting.  I have class today so it will be a while before I can respond again...but I do appreciate anyone willing to help me and provide some guidance!
Thanks in Advance!

What OS are you using? Standard installation goes like this:

1. Download Zadig ( http://zadig.akeo.ie/ ) for OS you are using.
2. Plug in all USB miners into working USB hub.
3. Run Zadig and install USB driver, you might need to select Options > List All Devices in order for USB miners to show up on central drop-down menu.
4. If all is done correctly you should see five CP2012 USB to UART Bridge Controllers added to your system (Control Panel > Devices and Printers).
5. Download and use older version of CGMiner ( http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/4.1/ works flawlessly for me).

If you are using WinXP there is an issue with all Asicminer USB Erupters having the same ID and causing WinXP to not recognize more than 2 or 3 devices, to fix that you will need to reprogram miner EPROM with different ID for each device.

Also if you are not do 1 at a time.  It is slower but you will make sure each one is working this way.  It will also make sure your powered hub is powerful enough.

I played around with one a long time ago. I am sure bfgminer works. You should try downloading an old version of bfgminer. Like one that is released six months or a year ago. They may have dropped support for BE in more recent versions.

Selling the miners and buy bitcoins is a great advice. Mining is fun but you will get more far more bitcoins selling them. You can cloudmine with the bitcoins you got Wink

Don't sell them, keep them as a momento of the bitcoin mining history. You will not get much from them anyway.

I would agree I sold mine long ago when they were still a decent miner.  These day's they are worth so little might use them as decoration or momento as mentioned.

I guess you have more chance to get answers in the mining subforum:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=14.0

Also don't sell your miners.

If you keep them functional they might be worth good money some tome from now, like the old apples now are worth some good money

Thank you everyone for the advice.  I will be trying the one at a time thing.  Also, Yes, I know they're not worth that much, but this is a hobby and I'm testing the waters (so to say).  In a couple months, I will be upgrading, but right now I have to hide things from my hubby most of the time.

P.S.  I'm a woman...not a sir, but thank you sir for sticking up for me!!  Cheesy
