The private key is written on a sheet of paper and will be stored offline (eg. under your bed, in the kitchen etc.) so that now hacker can steel your funds.

This one is my favorite.  It works great as long as you are careful and don't modify the output accidentally.
You have to be extremely careful when using it. There is a significant risk of incorrect use resulting in an invalid private key. There is no built in error checking or error correction.

This one is pretty solid if you want a prettier solution than the Bitaddress.org one:

https://bitcoinpaperwallet.com/

If you want to step it up next level, you can get a Silver or Gold Wallet here:

http://www.silverwallets.com/

If bitcoinpaperwallet does what it says it does, then it is using bitaddress.org to generate the paper wallets and then just generating a pretty image for the layout.  Unless you have a real need for something pretty, it seems like you are trusting bitcoinpaperwallet not to alter any of bitaddress.org's code.  I think in that case I'd just stick with getting the bitaddress.org code from github, verifying the checksum, and running it offline.

As for silverwallets...  That's not a paper wallet at all. That's just an expensive and attractive box to store your paper wallet inside of once you've generated it.

What's wrong with pretty, expensive, and attractive, DannyHamilton?

Usually you're going to keep a paper wallet locked up in a safe or somewhere secure.  Say you have some deeds or titles or bank notes or insurance papers in your safe.

Fancy pants paperwallet or Silver/Gold Wallet will differentiate from those other papers quickfast!   Grin

bitaddress.org looks the best bet to me.

I prefer to create an address in blockchain.info, download the paper wallet in pdf format and then print it.

There's nothing wrong with pretty, expensive, and attractive if that's what you want.

I'm just pointing out that silverwallet isn't a paper wallet at all.  It's simply a box to put the paper wallet into.  You can buy any fancy box you like and put a paper wallet into it.  The OP was asking specifically about "the best BTC paper wallet", not "the best box to put your paper wallet into".

As for bitcoinpaperwallet, if you want something that's going to be colorful and stand out, you can stick with the original open source and code-reviewed bitaddress.org. Then just get some crayola crayons, and make it as pretty and colorful as you like.  That certainly seems more secure than trusting an additional party to interface with bitaddress for you.

Silver Wallets look pretty cool tbh.

Certainly. They are a very pretty box.

You still need to generate your own paper wallet though in a secure manner.  Then, once you've done that, you can put that paperwallet inside of your pretty box.

As a matter of fact, I think their website suggests that you use bitaddress.org.

So, the OP states:

"bitaddress.org looks the best bet to me"

And as a response, the alternative seem to be:

  • Use bitcoinpaperwallet, and they can use bitaddress for you
  • Use bitaddress, but then put it inside of a fancy silver box

As such, I'd agree with the OP:
"bitaddress.org looks the best bet"

I feel it's time I did something.

I've got a decent amount of coins now all in BTC core, if my laptop dies I'm fucked.
Time to do something about it.

Too risky leaving them on a computer, I've read too many horror stories although most of them are involving hot wallets or exchanges.

From Bitcoin-Qt?  Also known as Bitcoin Core?

Absolutely.  It can be done with the dumpprivkey command.

That method will work if you are 100% certain that you don't have any malware on your computer at all.

If you have any malware, then the method described in that video contains multiple significant risks.

I've got a decent amount of coins now all in BTC core, if my laptop dies I'm fucked.
Time to do something about it.

Too risky leaving them on a computer, I've read too many horror stories although most of them are involving hot wallets or exchanges.

No matter which wallet you use, you should make a few backups and put them in different places.

After you create your new paper wallet, you should do the same or you would lose your bitcoin when you lose that precious paper.
