There has been a rise in BTC Wallet thefts from various providers.

Sorry if this Regin "malware/trojan" has already be mentioned here, only found out about it today.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regin_%28malware%29

Might just be a coincidence in correlation to recent BTC Wallet hacks, since announcement?

Is anyone up to speed with this architecture, and how we can defend against/scan for?

The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

This types of news just scare away the new users, like the previous poster/user.

Regin is of no concern to us. It is government-developed malware aimed at very few and very particular high-value targets.

There are, however, hundreds of much more mundane malicious programs that try to steal passwords, wallets, make your computers mine bitcoin and so on - they are what we should be concerned about.
