Please remember to make sure that non-latin characters in usernames are still preserved on the new forum. I really want to keep my 'ø'.

I like to put special characters in my usernames. Whenever a forum I'm on changes their software, it always breaks my username.

I think this is also a good way to impersonate others. While it may be cool to have special characters in your username people who are highly trusted will be impersonated.

Maybe we could keep existing usernames as they are now and in the future make it so, moving forward only Latin can be used?

Wouldn't be very good for UX to force only Latin characters. Not all sounds can be expressed with them. Would you join a forum that forced you to use Chinese characters? How would you even begin to create a username?  Tongue

I don't think impersonation is a big deal. Only a small amount of impersonators actually succeed in pulling off a scam, and the victim is unlikely to get tricked again. Over time it becomes harder to come up with a username that looks similar enough and to pull off a scam before getting banned.

If they did remove special chacters like this it would surely cause more problems than its worth what if there was someone called Cobra and then they remove latin letters who gets the name? Would they have to change your username to a temp username and then youu can change it to what you want later?

There is a "Cobra" and it's active https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=49473. In your scenario it's only fair if I was the one that had to change name, "Cobra" is more active and older.
