Greetings, I'm thinking of launching the crowdfunding for the ePlug in February, but for right now I just want to get people's thoughts on my idea, please. I posted a concept only page on max keisers startjoin website. Please check it out when u get a chance and share your thoughts, good idea, bad idea, i should add this or remove that and why. Every day I post updates on there too. //startjo.in/ePlug #ePlug @kenCode_de Please and thank you! Smiley

From the Nov 28 Press Release:

MUNICH, GERMANY - NOVEMBER 28, 2014 -- ken Code announced today a prototype called "ePlug", a tiny internal circuit board for electrical outlets and light switches.

An ePlug at its core is a tiny printed circuit board (PCB) that connects its chips internally to any "ePlug Certified" light switch or electrical outlet and amongst other things provides the owner with free, decentralized internet access, a technology referred to as Meshnet.

Recent cryptographic and decentralization technologies have emerged such as Bitcoin and other Blockchain (Internet) based technologies. They proclaim to bring a "Web of Trust", reducing the need to rely on central authorities, Internet Service Providers and Content Delivery Networks.

Four different versions of the ePlug line are currently being refined. Models include @switch, @outlet, @bed and @outdoor all of which add or remove specific features based upon usage. All models are based on Open Source Software and Hardware and are fully customizable and programmable by the owner.

ken states that his vision for the ePlug line is "intended to proliferate free, decentralized internet and computing resources to every home and business on Earth", "cryptography can solve these issues of security and trust and Blockchain technologies are accomplishing that".

Temperature, motion and light sensors are embedded, providing fire, security, timer and LED lighting abilities as well. The ePlugs can also work with Nest and other leading "Internet of Things" platforms if the owner activates them. Other items that ken has addressed include the elimination of WiFi "deadzones" and a mass reduction of servers, big data centers and other centralized points of failure or snooping. Using less than 1 Watt, ePlugs can reduce global "phantom loads" (electrical devices that are left on, useless LED's, etc) too, helping to green the planet.

ken further states that "ePlugs can generate crypto-income for the owner, a process known as Farming" and: "the owner gains access to private, nearly unlimited global computing resources"

Does this plug connects to a btc mining pool?

yes, but the little bit of mining that it can do is nothing compared to the farming out of sys resources, that is where i really think the ePlugs can shine. distributed computing is everything, i think big data companies really don't have much of a choice anymore.
I've been posting almost daily updates on the startjoin faq page too. thank you for the comment @dansmith! Smiley

If mining is so miniscule, why mention it then in your project? Nobody's gonna do it.
Maybe I misunderstand something but what else does ePlug have to do with cryptocurrencies/blockchain?

the mining is a cross sell to everything else it can do. if the ePlug is sitting there doing nothing at all, sucking up the 1 watt of power then it may as well contribute to mining, that was my thoughts anyway. farming allows you to make cryypto as well, but by sharing the unused drive and system resources that you choose. i for example only use about 40% of my hard drive, so the other 60% could be shared with the network and the network pays you for contributing.

Do you plan to add a bitcoin hashing chip to ePlug?
Or if it will be programmable, will you also supply the code to flash the chip for bitcoin mining?

Good questions, thank you. I'm not totally sure yet on that first question because it will depend on the space we still have left after the mass production run is going and that can't even happen till the series a financing is secured, mid next year. Right now we can do it with off the shelf parts but until the series a, who knows. I think the farming of sys resources is more important that any mining abilities right now, so my plan is if we did have to dump something from the board to get it all to fit, or because of heat issues, then the mining would have to go. In the FAQ on startjoin I also mentioned that I will definitely be uploading every bit of code to gitchain, I want these to remain fully hackable, open source hw and sw. I'm pretty sure one of the big boys is going to get ahold of this too and try to close the source, not if I can help it tho, I want the ePlugs to be totally open. I want encrypted distributed systems, meshnet and decentralization propagated worldwide.

Even if every single person on the planet has an ePlug mining at (generously) 1000 hashes per second, you'd only get 7bil*1000=7Thash/sec. Juxtaposing this to the current 300000Thash/sec the whole planet cumulatively would earn a few dozen usd per day.

Now ya see why I say farming will become preferable to mining. I love bitcoin, but mining it is getting tougher and tougher. I'll just hold it as a store of value. Over 21,000 companies accept bitcoin now too so its propagation is coming along nicely. Distributed computing is the future, imo so the ePlug mining abilities is just a cross sell, probably at that point more important for businesses anyway. Home users could probably care less about mining. Farming income will surpass that of btc mining income so in turn, that will encourage more people to get an ePlug just for it's distributed computing abilities. Sneakily, this is expanding the meshnet at the same time.. I'd love it if nobody every had to pay an ISP for their restricted access ever again.
