Was this a good deal? (ASIC Purchase)

I've been trying to find a Dragon 1TH for a good price, but I got sniped the other day, for like... $380, was it? It would be coming mid-january from China, I guess.

They're rated at 1.5T and 1000w power usage. I guestimated with the arrival time, that even if I get it mid-january, it'll pay itself off in about 3 or 4 months. At current price. Doesn't seem too bad, does it?

Was this a sleeper hit? I don't like to do it, but I could just tell the guy I don't want it. It seemed a lot better than the dragon, that was $100 less in the end. So to ship this thing from China for $500 that I won the auction for, do you think I did well on this?

This Avalon 3rd gen 2TH is selling for like $3000! I know that price is inflated. I think.  And at 1 watt / GH... So 2TH, 2000watts, vs 1.5TH at only 1000w and for 1/8th the money. seems to be a decent deal. Antminer S4's at similar power rating are going for over $1000 dollars in hand. There won't be $1000 in profit, so even mid-january should still make up for the time. Even with a decent difficulty increase, it seems.

 The A1 machine that I bid on is rated at about .66 watts per GH. That seems to be current gen for bitcoin mining, right? So should I go through with it, or not? What do you guys think? Thanks!

All of A1 chips miner use more than 1W/GH. They are power hungry.

However, it's claiming A1 chips with specs similar to the auction. It's claiming 1400-1600HG at about 1170 watts.

They claim similar numbers. .66w/GH in high power, .30-some odd in low-power.

okay they are not .66 watt miners.  most 1.5th dragons use 1100 watts.  and you wait 30 days to get it.

Heck I just sold 5 s-3's for about 170 each..   so 3 were 510…….  I have none left.

  I would tell you I rather have three  s-3+'s  then 1  1.5th dragon miner.  I switched out my s-3's for sp20's.

I now have 6 sp20's well 5 with 1 on the way.

However, if you do the math, the faster delivery should actually make up for that $200 within the month, and will be a tad more future proof... Maybe this is decent.

Touch decision, IMO. But S3's are typically going for like $200 each. Some are that plus shipping. You'd pay more for less hashing power, but in-hand... Then again, I only have a PSU to power one... Damn, if this A1 was in-hand, I'd pay for it in a heartbeat, you know?

For all the 1T dragons this would be true.  But the 1.5T dragon does run around 1000-1100 watts been a while since I used a killawatt on it.

the sp20 gets 1350gh with 750 watts

the 1200 watt 1700 gh is with a monster overclock .

  you spend 450 watts  to get that last 350gh.

I have a very long detailed thread on the sp20.  if you have a 1000 watt psu in hand the sp20 is a good deal

I don't know if this is completely true.  You can be a later adopter and still get deals.  When the S4 first got a 400 off was a decent deal.  And the black friday SP20 deal was good aswell.

Just best at certain times right after change for the most part.

I jumped on the sp20's for Black friday.  I sold off all the s-3's to convert to the sp20's

With the low diff jumps they should do very well for me.

Sorry if came across wrong, I was not saying you cannot get ROI with first adopter.   Just that later adopter is able to have a chance aswell with things such as SP-20 sale they had on black friday.

I think if you have decent electricity and cold winter you can do a lot right now.

No, I totally got what you were saying. And it's true, I know from experience! You guys remember in... May, June, etc? I was just wanting to get into mining with an Antminer S1. They were going for like 260-300 for just the S1 unit... And this is an aggravating story to tell, but... I had won an Antminer in an Ebay auction. As it turned out, the guy was talking about how he didn't have the unit on hand... I ended up getting a refund, but if you broke down the price of the unit, the difficulty, and the price of BTC, I'd have been way ahead right now. At this point, I've only just about broken even on the unit, because I got one a month later at the same price. I'd have well over 1 BTC now, whereas I've only got about .70. But it's not too big a deal.

Anyway, what you can get out of that story is, you can buy old hardware at the *right* time and get a great deal. And still make well over ROI in a reasonable amount of time, if everything is going right.



But as a counter to that... I'm guessing a lot of you guys are using Ebay to purchase hardware? I'm about to contact Ebay on the issue (heh good luck there) but what has been your experience with winning an auction, then having it canceled by the seller? Could I fight it? I mean, I doubt they'd be able to get through to some Chinese reseller.

Why I'm asking, is... I was bidding on a bunch of units for a low price, hoping I could actually get one. You know, sometimes you get lucky on an auction? Anyway, I believe my closing bid was maybe $250, $300 on an Antminer S4. To come in January. Yeah, no joke. Anyway, It showed that I was the highest bidder, but the item was deleted. I guess they felt they didn't get the right price. Which I'd agree with. Granted, if that's what they wanted, they'd have set a reserve price? Is there any way to fight that in you guys' experience? I don't want to sound like an opportunistic cheat, but honestly, that's what you get when you post an auction with no reserve...
