Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

I did received a strange mail yesterday asking me to verify my info on mtgox (which I didn't do). Is it related?

I received the same a couple of days ago, but did not react since I have already shared everything with them weeks ago.

I believe this recent mail could be a SPAM / FISHING attempt.

Check the link's address and see if it's actually MTGox.

I get this kind of shit daily too so I'd say no, not really related. I even get Runescape and WoW phishing emails on my 'beater' email too. (which is not related to those games whatsoever)

The same here, but this time it is just some bottleneck on bitcoincharts.com side. Now it seems to be fixed, and old trades are populated.
