Not sure what all the fuss is about. The Good Wife featured an entire episode centered around bitcoin back in January of 2012. Is the excitement because it was briefly mentioned in a movie in 2014 or what?

Speaking for myself, I never got excited about the Good Wife episode, as I've never seen any of GW episode. And have likely heard of GW because it was mentioned on bitcoin forum, not the other way around.

It's not that big of a news (meaningless compared to Overstock, Dell, PayPal news), but afaik it's the first BTC reference in the multi-million production, so just another 'milestone' crossed. That's all.

Good to see Bitcoin get more mainstream mentions in movies, TV, news, and media.  Now if we can somehow get a huge blockbuster Marvel movie, James Bond movie, or dedicated episode on like The Big Bang Theory...that would be even better.

That could be interesting. I agree that the more exposure the better, but I think better results could come from targeting a more willing audience. Anyone want to phone the guys of the big bang theory and pitch an episode plot? Smiley
I think this is just an example that bitcoin is becoming something something that most people will recognize when mentioned in pop culture. Horrible Bosses 2 does shine somewhat of a negative light on bitcoin so I don't see this being particularly positive for bitcoin (although not particularly negative either)

Any publicity is good publicity and maybe not all but many people who watch this movie will be curious as to what bitcoin is and they might google it and like the idea. This is good.

i dont think that the movie is suppose to be the media bomb to create a speculative jump in price. i treat it as just a mile stone and a beginning of bitcoin entering everyday conversation.

the movie itself is not the big thing, bitcoin being mentioned is not the big thing. i only pointed it out as being the FIRST mention of it in any multi-million dollar production. and it wont be the last.

alot of people thought that dell wouldnt be accepting bitcoin in 2014
alot of people thought that paypal wouldnt be accepting bitcoin in 2014
alot of people thought that microsoft wouldnt be accepting bitcoin in 2014

so in many peoples eyes, the beginning of mainstreaming is maybe going to be happening before the 2016 block reward halving, rather than after..

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.

Adding to that list:

alot of people thought that Time Magazine wouldn't be accepting bitcoin in 2014
alot of people thought that Expedia wouldn't be accepting bitcoin in 2014
alot of people thought that United Way wouldn't be accepting bitcoin in 2014
alot of people thought that there wouldn't be a college football Bitcoin bowl game in 2014

Just have to get Bitcoin passed around like it's a word of mouth thing, to get this boulder moving.

One thing I can say for sure is bitcoin isn't for the narrow-minded.
My friend didnt even open up a wallet because she thought

"it would be a good idea if I could get anything out of it."

 Huh

jamie foxx's character mentions paying for burner phones with bitcoins.

i say this because many people thought bitcoin would never be mentioned in a multi-million dollar movie in 2014... well.. it now has

Here is the scene: http://youtu.be/-tUT9DiqkSo

It's nice to see Bitcoin getting known everywhere Grin It also got mentioned on "Good Wife" Series several time and also Silk Road with it  Tongue
