To mark the launch of Crypto Ball we’re filling up pots for every day until the end of December.  What’s more, given this a time of generosity, we’ve even filled more than one pot on some days - one special day has a combined starting pot of 3 BTC.

You don’t need to worry about us being new and thus not having a plethora of users.  Crypto Ball rewards accuracy and accuracy is relative, so if you end up being the only person who makes a prediction for a given date/time/pair, you’ll win 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th place - on some days that could mean receiving a minimum of 0.79 BTC and all for a prediction that cost just 0.01 BTC.

Whilst this might seem a good reason to keep the promotion a secret, remember that the bigger the pot gets, the greater the percentage the winners receive.  A pot of 8 BTC would see 1st place receive 3.0212 BTC and with up to 4 prediction sessions a day things can start to look very nice indeed.

And let’s not forget the fundament of Crypto Ball - for every prediction you make you’ll receive the aggregate of all predictions for that date/time/pair.  Who knows, you might make a bounteous Christmas trade as well as winning Crypto Ball.

So get predicting, spread the word and let’s see in 2015 with smiles on our faces and fire in our bellies.

Warmest Wishes,

Only 5 hrs left before you miss the chance to predict on a 1 BTC pot.
Still no predictions, so if you're the only one you take all rewards.

Hi bajing, hope you’re well, thanks for your question.

Here’s a summary of how Crypto Ball works and the collective intelligence principals that underpin it.

You make a prediction as to the price of BTC at either 00:00 or 12:00 UTC on a date of your choosing.  Unlike binary options, you make a specific prediction, e.g I might predict the price to be $334.69 at 12:00 UTC on Saturday 20th December.

Each prediction costs just 0.01 BTC and all payments for that date/time go into a pot.  The 5 most accurate predictions are rewarded with a share of the pot.  The larger the pot, the greater the share the winners receive, e.g if the pot is 2 BTC 1st place gets 0.352 BTC (17.6%), but if the pot is 8 BTC 1st place gets 3.02 BTC (37.8%).  Check out our Rewards page for more info.

In order to promote the launch of Crypto Ball we’ve pre-loaded pots for the rest of December, so people feel less nervous about making the first move.  For example, the pot for 12:00 UTC on Saturday 20th December is pre-loaded with 2 BTC.

If you end up being the only person who makes a prediction for that date/time, you’ll win 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th place, because of course your prediction will definitely be the most accurate - this means receiving 0.6 BTC.  If lots of people make predictions then there’ll be a bigger pot, which means a much bigger reward for the top 5 predictions.  All in all it’s a perfect storm.

Beyond this, the key element that makes Crypto Ball stand out is its exploration of collective intelligence.  Yes, you are rewarded in BTC for the accuracy of your predictions, and sometimes that reward can be substantial, but ultimately this is incentive for gathering valuable data - large numbers of people’s predictions on BTC price movement.

Collective intelligence is the combined intelligence of a diverse group of people.  In certain areas collective intel has proved more useful than the single opinions of experts - one such area is market movement.  Simply put, if we combine or average the many opinions people have about BTC price movement we’ll end up with a prediction that’s more accurate than that of any individual.

How’s this useful to you?  Well, every time you make a prediction you’ll be sent the average of all predictions for that date/time.  You can then use this data to facilitate your own trading.  Who knows, you might make a killer Christmas trade as well as winning Crypto Ball.

Collective intelligence is already being used in mainstream stock market trading and to great effect - it’s about time we got a slice of the pie over here in crypto.  Furthermore, there’s an argument to be had that crypto has some advantages for good collective intel, e.g strong, diverse, distributed, competitive and decentralised communities.

NB:  Just as a side note, you’ll notice Crypto Ball using two terms: Collective Intelligence and Wisdom of the Crowd.  They are both based on the principal of deriving intelligence from large groups of people, however the method by which they achieve this is different.  Whilst knowledge of the differences isn’t at all necessary to take part in Crypto Ball, please feel free to ask if you’re curious.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we've had our very 1st winner on Crypto Ball! TheEdge spent 0.01 BTC and won 0.16534249 BTC with their prediction for Friday 19th December 12:00 UTC.  The reason we can announce they’ve won now is because no one else made any predictions for this date/time, so TheEdge won 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th.

C’mon everyone, get involved, don’t lose out. There’s a Pot of 2 BTC for Sat 20th Dec 12:00 UTC - you could win 0.59910785 BTC if no one else predicts again or 0.35241638 BTC if you come 1st.

If you want to win BTC and get trading data visit:

Hi devvienuis,
Hope all’s well with you.

Sorry to hear about your problems with Gmail.  We provided an alternate email via DM on Twitter and we’ll also be sending you an email just in case you get it ok.  That said, we thought we’d get in touch here as well just to make sure you get the info about your predictions.

You’ll be pleased to hear that we’ve processed your predictions for Mon 22nd Dec 12:00 UTC.  Apologies for the slight issues you had filling in your Prediction Form - we were in the process of making some updates to the site and it seems that clashed with you making your Prediction.

All sorted now, so feel free to use the form as normal from now on.

Given this was your first time and you didn't have an entirely smooth ride, we’d like to offer you some gifts.  We take customer service very seriously and pride ourselves on going above and beyond.  Here’s what we’ve done for you:

1)  Refunded the 0.05 BTC you spent on predictions.  Your Preds are still logged, we’ve just given you them for free.  Here’s the Trans ID for that:
0c27c589bd31aa3cb563ceac5ae8772a02795944752a36b646560ca252e4c803

2)  Given you a little present of 0.05 BTC to make up for the inconvenience and ensure you profit from your 1st time on Crypto Ball.  Here’s the Trans ID for that:
1819872e08dd24215e4f83d76a8c0c5b671344f37953b7778c721a1464bd2c8f

3)  Pre-load the Pot on the date/time/pair you predicted for with 0.5 BTC. We’re doing this because that particular date/time/pair didn’t have a pre-load and we wanted to give you a shot at winning a meaningful amount of BTC.  Check out the calendar on our site to see the Pot for your prediction.

We hope this makes more than amends and we sincerely hope you return to Crypto Ball very soon to make more Predictions.

Warmest Wishes,
Crypto Ball Support

Thank You kindly for the feedback. We're getting on a revision as I type.

Something seems a little wrong here.....
The guy on Friday (December 19th) wins 1st-5th since he was the only one playing.
If you add up all that he won = 0.1654 BTC but the pot was 1 BTCHuhHuh

Isnt this like advertising a "million dollar grand prize contest" were the winner doesnt get a million, he gets 100k?

Maybe you should be more up front with the amount that people can actually win, since its nowhere near whats in the pool.

I have a "prediction":
For Mondays contest, the winner will get less than .05 BTC even though its being advertised as having a .55 btc pool.

I understand you have operating costs, but this is like playing a poker tournament where the house keeps 90% of the prize pool and lets the players fight for crumbs.

Hi Shattered,
Great comment, thanks for bringing it up - the point obviously needs a little more clarification.

Firstly, and in many ways most importantly, the share the winners receive increases dramatically the larger the Pot gets.  As you’ll see by the infographic at the top, whilst a Pot of 1 BTC renders a share of 0.1622 BTC (16.218%) for the winners, a Pot of 4 BTC gives the winners 1.9277 BTC (48.192%) and a Pot of 8 BTC gives 5.136 BTC (64.200%).

Secondly, we’ve pre-loaded the vast majority of what you currently see in the Pots for December.  It’s one of our launch promotions (more to come soon).  So, of the 1 BTC you mention for Fri 19th Dec, we put 1 BTC and the predictor who won paid just 0.01 BTC.  In this instance, winning 0.1654 BTC is really not that bad at all.

Furthermore, that same predictor has gone on to play on their own for the last few sessions, winning a total of 0.97835553 BTC and all for just 0.02 BTC (we gave them some free predictions for being a first mover).

As you will also see by the post above, we’ve refunded devvienuis for their predictions and given them a further 0.05 BTC, whilst also loading the Pot they predicted on with 0.5 BTC (that’s the 0.55 BTC Pot you mention).  If they were to win the lot, given no one else has predicted for that day, they’d get 0.05010448 BTC + the 0.05 we gave them and they actually haven’t spent a penny.

The reason we’ve set up winnings in this way is to incentivise high prediction volume - the bigger the Pots get, the SMALLER our share.  We want high prediction volume so we can offer people meaningly aggregate data, then it will be of far greater use for trading.  Trading with the data you receive from Crypto Ball is an additional and potentially marked benefit to using the service and still for just 0.01 BTC per prediction.

Hopefully this goes some way to prove we’re not trying to run an unfair deal.  However, if the community at large feel the smaller wins on low volume Pots is proving a barrier to entry, we’ll seriously consider tweaking the formula.

What I will say though is that the principal of “greater Pot, greater share” will remain, even if we increase the share for smaller Pots.  This is simply to achieve the desired affect as mentioned above.

Thanks for your question and do let us know if there’s anything else.

I've been in contact with the team, last they said, the December pots were only a try-out/ beta. They are still working on some flaws in the meantime. I hope the site gets a good update and reopens nicely.
