There are several threads in this forum asking people for (personal) information about themselves and there's also been plenty of people asking what's the problem with giving out said info, so I thought I'd just make a post to address this issue.
The argument,
"If you've done nothing wrong, you've got nothing to hide" is invalid. Not only have monumental atrocities been precipitated by this premise historically, but people are being taken advantage of every day by being care free with their personal information. For example, many people will make available their name and address in any number of ways, then post on their facebook page that they will be vacationing away from home only to come back and find they've been robbed. There are many other ways you could get hurt, even unintentionally. Unfortunately, not everyone is as responsible (with your info), or nice, or as stable as you'd like to believe, including your own government. If you're still not convinced, please read the following article to get a clearer perspective.
