What do you all think of changetip?
I think it is a great way to bring bitcoin to new users by being kind, answering simple questions and giving small tips.

The Tipping-tuesday reddit-thread gets lots of comments from users  from the Xbox-subreddit (obviously after the microsoft announcement), BUT not many bitcoiners are involved tipping...

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2phm79/tipping_tuesday_december_16_2014/

Upvoting this reddit-thread would be nice, so that more bitcoiners come across it (and maybe give a tip or two)

Wasn't there supposed to be a 1 million dollar redesign? I wonder why we aren't hearing any progress on this?

In my opinion the whole tipping idea is bogus and, to some extends, dangerous.
The internet is already full of 'tribes' where independent thinking is punished by peer pressure.
Now we are even going to incentive this mechanism with money?
It will go like this:

Quote
[FrankObvious] *obvious opinion, truism, tribe behavior*
[JohnSocialEscalator] *very good, frank* - TIP: FrankObvious
[DisinteressedButIngenuous] *complex opinion, against common misconceptions, not interested in tribe mechanics*
[JohnSocialEscalator] *bullshit, rage, non-sense rebuttal*
[FrankObvious] *very good, john* - TIP: JohnSocialEscalator
[DisinteressedButIngenuous] leave discussion

Big man mechanics, but on the internet.

I think it is like micro-bitcoin payment processors and can be applied in many areas, such online content providers tipping, context payment!

True to some extent, but
- would that not happen anyway sooner or later, when a digital currency in some way reach social networks? why not embrace it because it shows the potential of microtransactions (even if all non redeemed tx are off-chain) and permits bitcoin to reach greater audiences that will then use bitcoin beyond the tipping... tipping might then one day just have been the catalysator
- there might still be subbreddits with common minded people thinking out of the box, and the small rewards there for great postings might still help people put thoughts in what they write

Sure it does. Just look at a user's profile and if they have an address attacked to their bitcoin address field then send them a "tip".

This method makes it so you you do not get the public recognition for tipping, but it also makes it more difficult to manipulate (and keeps out people begging for tips)

It's gr8 but I don't see a lot of people using it, maybe because in the end it's like an on-line wallet, so most don't want to put a lot of funds there. I made an acc myself using twitter but didn't recd/send any tips so far.

Changetip is just launching. I think the users base will be increasing soon. Many active online content providers tend to go there and have an account for receiving tips.

There's a whole subforum dedicated to the new forum: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=167.0

And at least one thread requesting changetip/a tipping feature to be implemented: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=849071.0

Shouldn't be so hard as to add an extra button below the username to be able to tip them in conjunction with a wallet that enable it. You'd think with the number of coders and so forth on here, it wouldn't take much more than a simple bounty to have it coded and implemented.

Tipping celebs via fb or twttler imho is probably the best way to get these systems more exposure / popular faster. Lots of non bitheads would see the posts and might just get curious.

if we could get just 100 people or so to tip a tv show presenter like daily show or colbert etc they could mention it on tv, or tip a charity during an awareness campaign, they could notice and then start to ask for tips as standard... you get the idea.

Good inovation i think, especially for reddit forum, twitter.

It's gr8 but I don't see a lot of people using it, maybe because in the end it's like an on-line wallet, so most don't want to put a lot of funds there. I made an acc myself using twitter but didn't recd/send any tips so far.

Actually i'm new in changetip, and i have a trouble like you Lips sealed

I agree with the following article and take the same stand: ChangeTip Must Die
Well in theory ChangeTip's customers will tip eachother back and forth (they tip people with tips received) so the revenue estimate is somewhat underestimated. It is also important to note that ChangeTip is focused primarily on micro tips while the article suggests that people only tip larger amounts (in terms of dollars).

I do agree that the whole concept of 'tipping' on reddit/twitter is really dumb and many people often manipulate their appearance in order to make them look generous when they are really just giving money to themselves. It also leads to begging which is annoying
