Agreed. People need to be more careful to say things which could not be quoted out of context. They actually said:

[our legal requirement to be responsible with our money] has been interpreted to mean that we do not accept "artificial" currencies...

They then go on to explain that this is not actually what they mean, and that they may consider accepting Bitcoin in the future, presumably once their lawyers/accountants figure out the relevant legal requirements. The thread title is quoting them as saying the exact opposite of what they actually said.

^this, hope they reconsider though. People like donate by whichever means are available to them so wikimedia can't be "picky" about it.

Didn't we all go through all this last year about this time? I do recall a New York chapter of Wikimedia accepting BTC. Would somebody be so kind as to hunt that thread down and post its link for all to see?

I once heard of a term that means using language like this to say something while avoiding giving a source.  When I learned about this, I learned it was a bad thing to do.

I think that term was called "weasel words".

Let me think... where did I learn about "weasel words" and why they are bad.

Oh yeah, that's right.  I learned about this on Wikipedia!  It's a Wikipedia policy, shorthanded as WP:WEASEL, but detailed at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:WEASEL .
