Those links are the bitcoin/bitcoin ppa (which is unofficial, despite being linked to on bitcoin.org), and afaict they do not contain an /etc/bash_completion.d/bitcoind. Im assuming there was some issue upgrading where dpkg didn't remove the files, could you try downloading those directly (or the appropriate version from https://launchpad.net/~bitcoin/+archive/bitcoin/+packages) or re-installing (probably with a purge instead of just remove the first time)? EDIT: Sorry, yea there would be an issue after upgrading from 0.6.3-*1, as dpkg won't remove files in /etc/ that have been removed in the upstream package. The solution is to do a purge of bitcoind, and then reinstall 0.6.3-*2.

Well, in that case, since it is not supposed to be there, simply done it the other way around: sudo rm /etc/bash_completion.d/bitcoind Looking great, for now! Any news on the disappearance icon on 12.04? Thanks!

Any news on the disappearance icon on 12.04? Thanks! When no one creates a ticket for this on Github it's unlikely to get fixed soon ... I can't help here as I'm on Windows. Perhaps you can try a 0.7 based build from luke (search for next-test on the forums) to see if the problem is still existent there. Dia

Also, the Bitcoin tray icon is missing (Ubuntu 12.04 - Unity 3D and 2D)... And the text menu too... If I minimize to the tray icon, the Bitcoin main window becomes inaccessible.
Cheers! Thiago
Remove package appmenu-gtk : Export GTK menus over DBus and reboot, it worked for me. Also, TrueCrypt has the similar problem.

The new release looks much better but I still can't find out how much the total fees are to send coins. My wallet has 0.52390169 BTC and I tried to spend it and got the message "Total exceeds your balance when the .01 BTC tranasaction fee is included" Fair enough so I reduced the spend to 0.51390169 and the get the message "Total exceeds your balance when the .23 BTC tranasaction fee is included" This doesn't seem right or fair. How do I calculate what the TOTAL fees are going to be?

there's a field where you can specify the fees you want to pay. I think they override the calculated/proposed fees if you leave it blank. afaik you could get away with .0005 btc fees or simply try to broadcast your transaction to the network without any fees what so ever. what also matters are your incoming btc transactions that you want use as input in your spending. size of transaction is a factor in fee calculation. could you re-try? if in doubt, just start with 0 fees and send bitcoins to yourself, just to see if you can do it or try with the minimum recommended 0.0005 again just to see if it works for you.

No, the fees paid will not change if you leave it at 0 or set it to some small value (unless you would otherwise pay 0 fee). See https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Transaction_fees

See https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Transaction_feesthanks for the clarification. I think i got it at least partially right with the bold part. meaning: if he has 1 input and wants to spend it, the transaction can be fairly small. we do not know how many inputs (s)he combines in the 0.5 btc balance (might be a miner with daily payouts from a pool with a single card mining since April ...) & (s)he can still try to broadcast the spending and get it included in the free space in each block. I managed to get a free tx included after 24 hours earlier this year.
