Looks like a bug in their page, because these little stairs at least for "all markts combined" cannot be.

Hey, It is not a bug. Those stairs probably show our instant trade mechanism. Quote from our FAQ: When you place an instant order, we add an order at the current bid or ask price (depending on the type of the order). If there is not enough bitcoins available at that price, your order will remain open until someone sells or buys additional bitcoins at that price. Our trading engine will then reposition your order every 10 minutes to the current order book offer. Rise in volume is result of large new investor into bitcoin buying at bitstamp. Best regards, Nejc Kodrič www.Bitstamp.net

Best regards, Nejc Kodrič www.Bitstamp.netHi, Nejc, thank you for explanation. But I still have a question. I understand the idea of instant order, and what we saw is someone is buying large sum. But what I cannot understand why those increases in price occured on both bids and especially on asks side simultanously, when I expect them to occur only on ask side. Can you please clear this question?

Aka bitpay Hmmmm umm, wouldn't bitpay be selling, not buying?

If you're not excited by the idea of being an early adopter 'now', then you should come back in three or four years and either tell us "Told you it'd never work!" or join what should, by then, be a much more stable and easier-to-use system. - GA

Aka bitpay Hmmmm umm, wouldn't bitpay be selling, not buying? you are right. Bit-Pay is assumed selling. And we see opposite, someone is buying... First stolen bank money poured into bitcoins?

What you're seeing is the rise of Bitcoin and Bitstamp. MtGox's withdrawal delays have made the big players finally try alternatives. Bitstamp has a great exchange, excellent support, and has no withdrawal delays. Additionally, Bitstamp is integrated with BitInstant this allows smooth arbitrage. Two weeks ago a large test purchase of $50k was made and Bitstamp performed admirably. This has attracted even more members of the community to Bitstamp. This purchase made specifically for business to business commerce and more should be on the way. Behind the scenes, I'm hearing many stories of potential interest in Bitcoin adoption and investment by larger companies and groups. These people are often being directed to Bitstamp for the best possible experience.
