Last December the price of Bitcoin was around the $1000 mark, ever since then it has been dropping. Is the currency failing?

Ya but even then the price continues to drop, people are starting to loose faith in Bitcoin. The currency has been dropping at such a consistent rate, it is quite alarming.

It's more about the currency establishing itself rather than the currency failing, I hope !!!

Maybe Bitcoin's falling price is a part of its design? It punishes greed & hoarding, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demurrage_%28currency%29

Well…really currency should not decrease in value at such a rate. It's like the gold I had last December was worth 10,000 now it's worth 3,000. I understand Bitcoin is volatile, but I cannot accept consistent dropping.

You aren't the first to ponder on the death of bitcoin. This has all played out at least 4-5 times before.
If you had invested any time before the end of 2013, you'd be saying "wow I can't believe how much it has appreciated in value"
If you're only looking at the last 15% worth of the currency's existence then yeah, it has been correcting. Do you expect 10,000% gains every year?
Bitcoin started at like a penny in 2009. Anything over $100 is a ridiculous gain in 5 years

The gain in price was probably more then it should have been and 2014 has resulted in most of the excess gains being 'given back'

I understand Bitcoin is volatile, but I cannot accept consistent dropping. bitcoin is still in its infancy, only very small amount of adoption. If the price was stable we'd all be "late adopters". Are you familiar with any large company valuations Pre-IPO? Even facebook saw major valuation swings prior to its IPO. VC's get to see new startups grow like this, which is why they are already comfortable investing in bitcoin and bitcoin related projects, the general public and most investors never get these opportunities.

Lol, no I'm not looking for 10,000% increases every year. I am looking for it to stop decreasing by 10,000% every year lol.

Bitcoin has increased in value by like well over a 100,000% percent in 5 years. There were deep corrections in between but for those who held out they are set for life. The correction we are experiencing this year isn't much different. Sounds like you're butthurt for investing at the top in November of 2013 You can either hold on like a champ or dump your coins like a loser. But whatever you do, stop investing in something with bitcoins type of dramatic volatility and expecting anything good to happen in 12 months You come across as either a troll or a retard. Bitcoin isn't for you

So wait, you mean there's still x33 of the "excess gains" to be "given back"?! Mebby I'll just hold off on buying for now

NotLambchop: "This troll is currently ignored." fallinglantern: " This troll is probably the same troll as the previous troll and so he's being ignored too." I'm also ignoring the original poster of this thread and I advise you all to ignore them as well. It seems obvious to me he is either working with the trolls in order to create an environment for them to respond to his rhetoric with trolling comments...or they're all the same person. Take your pick That ignore button to the left under their names....use it. It's there for the trolls
