How hard is it to implement google's 2-factor authentication and loggin guard with email confirmation if browser changes? If it's not too hard, can this feature be implemented without waiting for new forum update?

If it was going to be implemented I think it would've been by now. Stunna even offered a small bounty for it to be done (between 1-5 btc I think). I agree it should have been a priority but we may as well just wait for the new forum now.

Depends when the new forum arrives.. "Start of 2015" is easy to say.. People need to see deadlines abided by, we'll see if theymos (unlike Stunna) abides by his 'promises'.

If theymos could I'm sure he would have by now, if nothing else, getting endless pm's about account recovery is something I'm sure he would love to stop.

There are other posts in this section asking for this feature since 2012 or maybe earlier. Hopefully we get the new forum software soon.

If not google 2FA, at least an email verification? That shouldn't be too difficult to implement.
Account security is important and waiting for the new software is not a good idea.

This is the very minimum we require.

You must be an optimist if you think 2-factor will put a stop to account hacks or people pestering theymos  Grin. People still won't use it, though I suppose if they do lose their account due to not doing so then they're sol.

I assume that the majority of the users here are rather technology accomplished. This means that the most people know that it's important today to secure accounts everywhere (Facebook, Twitter, Mail AND Bitcointalk...). Also people who have a high rank (where the risk of scamming after a hack is enormous) would secure their accounts that nobody can scam in their name.

Well you would think that, but if that was the case people wouldn't lose their accounts in the first place, but I've lost count of how many times I've seen people complaining that their blockchain.info account has been hacked and they've lost their funds, and the conversations always go like this:

Q Did you have 2-factor set up?
A No

Its mainly newbs who lose their funds but it's those newbs that likely wont set up 2-factor either.

Ok, I would say that you are quite right. But I think 2FA would anyway help to REDUCE the hacks and maybe it would discourage potential hackers from trying to get accounts. All in all it's a cat-and-mouse game between the security and the hackers, they will ever find vulnerabilities or a hole to reach their targets.
