Even if you use Bitcoin through Tor, the way transactions are handled by the network makes anonymity difficult to achieve. Do not expect your transactions to be anonymous unless you really know what you're doing.

On this topic, I just wanted to make sure there are regular db backups to an offsite location?

You can use something like this one:
http://hex.ro/wp/projects/java-smf-backup/

I found it clunky to use, but it gets the job done.

Yes I think there are backups already, that's why the forum freezes for 2-3 minutes every single night at 11:10 PM eastern time.

I don't know what happens at 11:10 PM eastern, but the backups are run much later at night.

As Maged noted earlier, that wasn't the actual reason, however whatever the problem was seems to have been fixed, at least for one day when I stayed up late enough to test it again.
