I have created over the past few weeks a Beta version of a new site called Bitcoin Tribe.

Thats http://www.bitcointribe.com/.

A new social network for bitcoin users and businesses.

A tribe is viewed, historically or developmentally, as a social group existing before the development of, or outside of, states. Many anthropologists used the term tribal society to refer to societies organized largely on the basis of kinship.

Some theorists hold that tribes represent a stage in social evolution intermediate between bands and states. Other theorists argue that tribes developed after, and must be understood in terms of their relationship to, states.

Bitcoin Tribe is a place for Bitcoin users to socialize, share ideas and create new paradigms. I hope to see some of some of you there. As an incentive if you register on the site, post a Bitcoin address, click the advert on the bottom and then I will send you .001 BTC within 24 hours. I know its not much, but all you have to do is create an account, post a Bitcoin address, and click the advertisement on the bottom of the page.

After that make pages for your bitcoin business, get social! Make friends with other bitcoin users and links with other Bitcoin businesses.

A few things are still in the works, such as photo galleries, so right now you can only have one avatar, but that should be sorted out in a bit. Again, free bitcoins, just join post your bitcoin address and click the advertisement at the bottom of the site. Hopefully some of oyu get more involved then that, and if anybody is interested I am looking for developers and admins in the future.

Before you do anything else, IMHO you should figure out a vision for how you can REALLY set yourself apart from the thousands of other social networks that have been attempted. Choosing a new non-"bitcoin"-including name would be the next thing to do. What do you think of CoinConnect?

I think it's registered. I actually adapted this site from something I developed for a client that never paid (unfortunate). I'll take name suggestions here, lol the name I came up with tonight. I'm not looking to start another facebook just a place to create pages about your business, do some linking etc. But I am open to all idea and suggestions, and appreciate the input.

P.S.

Bitcoin users are reminiscent of internet nomads IMHO

I know CoinConnect is registered...it is a decent try at a social network for Bitcoin but I think Bitcoiners are not really the social networking type at this point.

When I think about what will replace or hope will replace Facebook, I think it'll be a social network that gives the users more control over the network itself. Possibly ownership, possibly a way to make money helping to build or promote the site, maybe a representative democracy in social network form.

I'd just pick a random name that ends in an ee sound so it makes people smile when they say it. Tongue

In reply, I like the ideas, as far as ownership, maybe I could list it on GLBSE. As far as representative democracy, the question is in what sense? Any social network at least in regards to content is a direct democracy, meaning that the "postership" as it were determine the subject matter of the content. As far as making money for posting, user could use something like coinURL to shorten links, or perhaps some kind of activity payout in bitcoins. Things to think on... and the name.... dammit I thought bitcointribe.com was pretty cool Smiley.

Also I am thinking about a social wallet, I.E. Every profile has a wallet, and can choose to display a QR code to recieve payments on thier profile. I dont know, I'm kind of thinking aloud to the forums here. Any thoughts?

so how will you know that the person has clicked on the advert.  Is there tracking that matches the username to the advert click-thru?  Or does a separate support ticket need to be generated?

I posted the bitcoin address to the "wall" (is that the correct place to post it?) I'll look out for the payment.

I receive the coins.  Thank you.  Question:  How many times can someone click on the ad and get credit?

Going to figure that out, a safe bet is once every 24 hours. However I need to develop a better tracking method before I do daily payouts. In the meantime, check out the Market I just added http://bitcointribe.com/market/owner/bytedisorder

I need opinions on the idea of a custom field where the user can input a bitcoin address on their profile and a QR will appear on their profile with the address under it to facilitate commerce between users. http://www.bitcointribe.com/ give me your thoughts guys. Thanks.

If you really want to facilitate commerce you might let users input a list of addresses and let them click used to have the top one deleted and the next one activated. This would let folks adhere to good privacy practices if they'd like that option. I would also suggest you use the bitcoin uri scheme which you can see at the site in my sig if you click on the buy button for any item and scan a qr code.
