Can't all users add an avatar? Or no?
No , Users before 2014 could have avatars, and not after. Its because, there was some security bug with having it.

Can't all users add an avatar? Or no?

No. Only scammers and only if they pay for them.

Allow me to explain. Avatars went out a while ago for security reasons, but old respected members of the forum still have them, and they sell their accounts to scammers. These scammers buy them, then they commit scams under them.

Welcome

Forgive my petulance and oft-times, I fear, ill-founded criticisms, and forgive me that I have, by this time, made your eyes and head ache with my long letter. But I cannot forgo hastily the pleasure and pride of thus conversing with you.

You did not need to be respected to have an avatar, nor did you need to be trusted. You only needed to have joined prior to the forum getting hacked.

I would suggest being very careful with this guy. He asks a lot of questions about the accounts that could potentially cause their identity to be revealed, then proceeds to make a lowball offer. He knows your asking price prior to asking identifying questions after knowing your asking price but before lowballing you.

Heed to the advice next to his username. Proceed with extreme caution

So just to fully understand, are people whose accounts are pre-2014 able to add an avatar now or is it only accounts that had the avatar already before the ban?

They are frozen in time. They cannot be added or removed

pre 2014 accounts can keep their avatar if they had one (you did not have to put one on). You cannot change your avatar and if you did not have one on (or if you have theymos remove it) you cannot put one back on.

tl;dr you cannot add nor change your avatar regardless of when you joined

edit:

theymos will remove it if you request him to do so

Thats quite pointless. An avatar doesn't add anything to your account. It's not like I think: "hey a person with an avatar, I trust him!"

This is only the first step in the screening process. No -ve trust will be important too. The avatar is just clever marketing

Haha. Not really true, but accounts with an avatar do have at least some prestige, but not much really. The only thing it says is you signed up a while before me.

If someone gets scammed from trusting an account merely because it has an avatar then I honestly don't know what to say to that. Avatars will be back with the new forum anyway.

In your feedback I see that you've stole 14 BTC from another user. Why now do you want to buy another account? Do you want to do another illegal action? Please  Angry

10 btc for mine....

Your account is totally worth at least 10 btc. Not very many accounts has GIF's, especially one with hot chix. Scammer will be able to scam anyone with that.
