The block chain allows for any exchange of value between two entities without a middleman. Transactions of all kinds are possible. You can use the block chain to store documents securely. Onename, a startup, is working on a social network that uses the block chain to validate identity. (Sorry, Facebook.) And then there’s the Internet of things. “Every time you’re running low on printer ink, it could notify the block chain and send you more,” theorizes Ryan Selkis of the Digital Currency Group.

Yeah, true. Well, as Bitcoin companies keep investing in PR, we might see more and more mainstream coverage. That's going to be interesting. The question is: "How will mainstream Bitcoin look like?".

What the hell? How does this work. I keep hearing about all the extra things you can do on top of the blockchain but don;t understand how it will work or is possible Sad.

Your printer is connected with the Blockchain and a printer ink distributor can detect this and will send you new ink Cheesy

Yeah, could be like an automated record keeping operation that puts shipping/receiving on auto-pilot thus cutting out the logistics departments at certain places. Smiley

Remember when you got your first 'puter and you made a dead-tree copy of everything, "just in case"?

Printers that use ink, even - very retro!   Tongue

My guess is that particular use of the blockchain isn't going far, but of course it was just an off-the-cuff example and the idea generalizes nicely.

You know, this could go hand in hand with drone delivery. You could pay when the package is delivered.

We all know the many benefits of bitcoin and the blockchain but I want to know when the rest of the world is going to realize it. People really need to start taking advantage of it and the money it will save them.
