Random Linux question

I happened into an old PC yesterday. It's a 3 ghz P4 with 512MB of Ram.

I was thinking of installing Linux on it both to play around a bit and learn how it works, and because the Windows XP on it is in Korean. And I really hate using computers with foreign language OSs on them. I do it enough at work, and it's really just annoying.

So the question is, what would be a good brand/version of Linux to put on it? With an eye on maybe setting it up as a kind of media server or something.

Or something more lightweight (google "lightweight linux distros"). Personally I like Peppermint Two.

I remember using Puppy Linux for one of my ancient laptops. Ran fine with 128mb of ram too.

PuppyLinux or DamnSmallLinux are very good for old computers.  Otherwise use something with the LXDE desktop like Lubuntu - http://lubuntu.net/ - I think LinuxMint have a LXDE version too.

Arch Linux - only install what you want (seriously, it doesn't even come with a desktop installed) to keep everything light. Plus, you learn all about Linux while setting it up.
