About the Squarecoin Project

Every altcoin launched so far that uses a physical coin as its logo has used a circular coin. But throughout history and even in modern times, there have been other shapes of coins. The most notable of these are square coins:

While there are some coins and assets that use a square-shaped logo such as jl777hodl, Nxttycoin, Unobtanium, and Tilecoin, their logos do not represent physical coins just like the way Facebook's square "f" logo does not represent a physical coin either.

The purpose of the Squarecoin Project is to create a coin that differentiates itself from other coins by featuring a square design.

Preliminary specifications:

- Algorithm: SHA-256 or Scrypt
- Total coins: 1,000,000 XSC (may be revised)
- Block time: 10 min (may be revised)
- Premine: 1 percent will be reserved for development costs and 1 percent for marketing, bounties, etc.
- Expected launch: January 2015

Hi, Squarecoin developer here. I have just been informed that there is an old failed coin called Square (SQ) which also seems to have a square logo. While it seems debatable whether that logo is actually meant to represent a physical coin, the negative reaction to this thread has left me wondering whether or not I should continue with this coin.

I will be making a final decision in the next couple of days. Rest assured however that even if this project is cancelled, all the work done so far will not go to waste. The lessons that I have learned from creating this coin will be used to improve my next project and hopefully that one will be far more successful.

And to those who supported me and my work, thank you.
