I'm thinking of joining Deepbit with my 1-4 Terahash capacity coming soon!
Which would be better for me? Solo or Deepbit?

Anything is better than deepbit.
Not that I actually have anything against the guy, just that the pool gets so big it's the only one I know of that has come close to and passed the 50% mark before. Dangerous for the networks security.

If you go solo for a very long time, you will probably earn slightly more than from a pool. But with a pool, your earnings are more steady over time. I'd go with a pool. Don't know anything about dipbit though.

At 1000-4000 GH/s you're as big as the biggest pools. I'd just go solo with hashing power like that.

PLEASE don't give 4TH to DeepBit.
Also 4TH is solo-mining time, but you may want to read up some more about mining and Bitcoin before committing that kind of money.

P2Pool. They are a pool, but controlled by no central authority so no 51% possibility.

Presuming your "coming soon" means when BFL starts shipping their SC product line, things may change by then. Definitely though, there's a point that it makes more sense to mine solo, even with the variance.

BFL Engineer says that the products will definitely be out by October, and yes I am anticipating the huge increase in network hash rate soon.

A question to add for other newbies such as myself... what would be the minimum hash rate to solo mine?

Thats what they always say. Lots of people are still waiting for the mini-rigs.

Depends on how long you're willing to wait to solve a block. At the current difficulty of 17265676 it'll take almost 3 months (2060 hours) at a 10 GH/s hash rate on average. 10x that hash rate will do it in 1/10 the time.

Today? About two hours. In "October"? Depends on how many FPGAs ship between now and when BFL starts shipping in its initial set of ASIC units.
