Author Topic: my bitcoins isnt there  (Read 779 times)

i just bought my first bitcoins. i gave them the adress that wallet shows me. but it just isnt there. i deleted all my app data except wallet.dat the blocks still syncing in. can you help me? did i just lose 550Dolars?

You wont actually receive the bitcoins until the blockchain is fully synced. Just wait a while. How far along is the syncing? it can sometimes take a while. You can enter the address you gave and enter it at a site like blockchain.info and it can tell you whether they actually sent the coins or not.

is the site trusted. i read that i should encrypt etc. i dont understand that much.

If you didn't delete the wallet.dat you are fine.

Copy wallet.dat to removable media right now, less can go wrong if you do that.

Companies claiming they got hacked and lost your coins sounds like fraud so perfect it could be called fashionable.  I never believe them.  If I ever experience the misfortune of a real intrusion, I declare I have been honest about the way I have managed the keys in Casascius Coins.  I maintain no ability to recover or reproduce the keys, not even under limitless duress or total intrusion.  Remember that trusting strangers with your coins without any recourse is, as a matter of principle, not a best practice.  Don't keep coins online. Use paper or hardware wallets instead.

thanks i cpied the wallet.dat and i searched in the site. i can see the transaction. i have 66 thousands more blocks to go. i will wait til the end. cant sleep without seeing the money there. thanks guys.
