Hello, I am new to mining bitcoin and have a few questions. First, I bought a Avalon Nano ASIC and noticed it only works with cgminer. Still setting up cgminer (it won't recognize my USB.) Second, I'd like to see what other mining software would work with it (I'd like a miner with a GUI.) Can anyone reply with some software/hardware combos that don't cost much? And any miners w/ GUI. Thanks

Unless U r mining in a mass scale, u'll probably be losing.

If you've already bought miner and have free electricity then you have nothing to lose. If you need help with setting up, try posting in mining support section: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=40.0

Thanks for the replies. I posted a new thread in support section. How much power does mining use? I'm on my Laptop. And how much would I make? Also, what's the best pool? I'm currently setup for slush's pool.

If you have free electric, just get a used Antminer S1 or S3 if you can. Should be around $100 or less nowadays.
You don't have to fiddle with CGMiner, just login to a webpage, configure, and you're mining.
You won't ever break even, but you're in it just for the hobby right?

Me again. I'd like to make a profit off bitcoin. Sounds like I got here late. What about litecoin? I've read it's faster, but only worth $15 each. What would I have to spend on a miner to make a profit? Reply back.

First question of Mining for Profit is "How much is your electrical costs: kw/Hour?" This is what usually kills any possibility of break even, let alone profit. If it's not sub $0.10 kw/Hr, don't even bother.

Mike, you did things in the wrong order. It might have been better if you asked questions before buying the equipment.
Regardless, the questions you are asking have been answered hundreds of times already. Rather than waiting for people to answer your questions, it might be easier to read old posts.

Unless U r mining in a mass scale, u'll probably be losing. It does not work that way, the relationship between ROI and Mining profit is linear if the variables hold still (difficulty raise and GH/S) that means that if you have 1,000 GH/s mining and you'll ROI in 1 month, you'll ROI in 1 month even with 10,000,000 GH/S, what really changes if you are going to ROI is the cost per kw/H, if you pay less than 0.10 cents per kW/h you'll ROI with many of the asics in the current generation of asics, just get some s5.

Thanks for the replies. I'll take a look at other posts and learn more about mining. You've all gave me a lot of good info. I rushed into buying the first ASIC I could find. I looked into buying a Antminer S3. Much faster than my 3.6Gh/s Avalon. I'll close this thread. Thanks again

Last time I tried get into that I looked up the thread or any guides on it, and you can find some good information. I know it changes regularly so you have to keep up to date.
