Is there a way to look up any address online by typing the first few characters?

Say I want to find 1ESvmL4k3wHsthoADGD5EQXmyaCCHnYQei; it would be great to type in only 1ESvmL and then get the entire address.

Obviously such a service would only work for addresses that have at least one transaction.

Sometimes I want to transfer from PC to such a wallet. Now I need to write the entire address - would be great to write only the first few characters...

Not sure if I understand you correctly but if you copy and paste it in your browser in something like blockchain.info your browser will remember it so you only have to type the first few characters every time for it to come up. You might want something different though.

Hmmm, it seems google has given up on indexing partial strings from blockchain.info etc. Used to find them.

But if you want "easy" just install QRcode software, or copy and paste by bluetooth or something.

If I remember correctly, blockr.io can do that. I needed exactly that feature some time ago and it worked! Just type in the beginning of the address in question: http://btc.blockr.io/

I think I've done more than a thousand transactions and I've never written down a single address. I've never used a paper wallet though. You may find it easier to copy/paste an address in an email.

arent paperwallets have qr codes which you can scan and you dont need to type the address?
