It's easy to sign a message with a Bitcoin address.

Why are we expected to just swallow the words (potential lies) of a company that could well be insolvent when they could deliver cryptographic proof?

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!
