I think it's a combination of first-mover advantage, BTC being "good enough", and the ability of BTC to trade as a currency off the block chain meaning that limitations of the block chain aren't limitations on the currency.

The difference is the time. Or, if you prefer, the age.

Bitcoin was the first. It's.. 5? years old. It is well known. It has a history. It has a lot of people that invested time and money into it.
The others ... let's talk about the others in 5 years. I think that some of them have a good chance the flourish.

hmmm its hard to see another coin to reach the btc status.

alt trading is a lot harder than stock trading with those pump and dump concepts.

do you think it is possible to have another coin like btc? or even just a coin with 100usd value?

its hard to look for a coin with a good shot to have btc value cause it all depends on btc

every crypto is based on btc price. and without btc many crypto cant be turned into cash.

what coin do you think has the best chance?

It's partly first mover advantage, and it's proved itself by never being properly hacked in it's entire existence.

Until a new coin based on new code has been around for a few years nobody can be sure if it's hackable.

hey vince.

there will not be another bitcoin, it has established itself as being the gold standard that backs all the other altcoin markets.

that being said there will be many coins that will be useful to the crypto community, that may in time be equal or greater to the value of bitcoin.  what is worth more, total gold market or fiat market.
people just need to create systems that allow for quick and efficient trade or that utilize the blockchain to help the crypto community become less dependent on the banking system in general.

I believe you are on the right path with at least one of your choices, but dont let others tell you what to invest in, do your due diligence, never press the buy button without knowing what your buying into, and never buy on hype.

good luck

Most of altcoin is just a clone of bitcoin.
The  different is bitcoin have more users.
And bitcoin is the price standard of all altercoin.

I think there are 2 things that will keep BTC at #1 for quite some time.

1. It was the first and started the whole crypto movement.
2. There are so many bagholders now that they will do anything to keep it at #1 no matter how much the technology lacks.

Technlogicaly speaking bitcoin is really one of the worst coins out there. Very, very long blocktimes and a huge waste of energy. Not to mention the mining centralization. People always say bitcoin can be advanced and be just as good as other coins are now but why isn't that happening ? There hase been 0 improvement. People say it can just be developed but I think it's not that easy especialy because it's already adopted by many. Not nearly by the masses but enough to make it difficult to make huge changes without interrupting services all over the place.

Market continues to place higher value on BTC than its thousand odd me-toos because any other clone is yet to surpass BTC in terms of value as perceived by the market.

It takes less than an hour to create and erect a me-too; maybe a week to get through the launch paraphrenalia; its definitely taking longer than six years to devise a coin capable to surpassing BTC in value. Its bound to happen sometime. When and who will do it is not so easy to predict. Its plain evolution at play.

crypto value is measured basically by acceptance and how big the community is. Having said that, btc being the first generally commands more followers and since it is the first, we have been using it as a benchmark to measure value of other cryptocurrencies against bitcoin. Also most of the cryptos technology are based on the bitcoin protocol and even though there has been some change or enhancement to make it better like the anonymous feature, somehow people still go back and stick to bitcoin. Exception there is of course like for instance monero but somehow people still regard bitcoin as being more important.

It's the same difference between someone who just started a company vs apple. Things take time. BTC should be at $5k but it has been dying since January of 2014. Altcoins are new and only few are 1 year old. Give them same amount of time BTC had and then you can revisit this subject.

Good news is that if you missed BTC boat that doesn't mean you're out of the game. Some altcoins are extremely cheap compare to what they can do. That means their value will rise substantially in time and it's always a good choice to put some of your investment in one of those altcoins and visit them after a year.

Being the first digital currency BTC had everything handed over to him. It's a spoiled child.  Tongue
