Lets play a game to see what happens. The rules are simple.Create an address called pay it forward and post it in the thread or on your forum profile. When you receive a donation on that address you then donate to 3 other people with a published pay it forward address. The amount you donate to each is unimportant as is the amount you receive. Its just an experiment. heres mine... 19tq9NYFsSCMRUkc12v363tHgAeUokoVam The first 5 people to post pay it forward addresses in this thread will get 2 bitcoins each to start the game. Here is an updated list of all the people so far! 19tq9NYFsSCMRUkc12v363tHgAeUokoVam noagendamarket 1Mz6PNnCJ1cwVK3qaH66QtCko5oNaHN4a nelisky 1QCNUyy3ViFnMEVTiuMvWgdnJnfYepMibg Macho 1PnuAFsYqmUbMfgqMUh5cNJvT72RtGTBHk bitcoindonor 16k9if6hVQUdA5XmYHqytrSYubdCDX5iXa BiddingPond.com 1KrPv3fP1D82dGjCGwHy8A8ewyDD6UcCa1 Smartzkid 1D3UqLGyEZvFJGnHvPm1hRVC94cpnuEnQr mizerydearia 1Ai3wNTYpmojwcS9pi31h4fRQhMqKuYLY9 lfm 1JfPbs97uzrJPDaC7414XvmYwz6p9yKgKM kupan787 1NkmwLA7FhdkWCk61VZhLviuhPcapeNmbj Skull88 1AbpDoEE1QpJaoCWdjoeNCdFbviQiaDLkb lzsaver 1KcgV8dxEYeg7q53AxQYVZvYRPbF6CsM5y Dae 1NWfTrEfFXR7oqxvX3av4gHtqBtKytRVNN em3rgentOrdr 14PqqeMRgcwMaotv13zNpeufVW9E1a5rwR Gatsu 1KJJmg1X8ZAxNtJE7vfmaLwUrQJEydwXsF Aqualung 1DEcTfUsHpPscf1qC2BE1v5JugweEyQVcr Cdecker 12zvmSidEUyLK4P6YZNpktBjk98ETiDgLL Singpolyma 1RpbyFnxfcsgtqeKahh5pgEF3DPwbkd2E Sandos 192z8dUWUmZT8sdhumuPLDWbzcQFSCB71P Altsa 1JfPbs97uzrJPDaC7414XvmYwz6p9yKgKM Symbiosis 19HtGLVbfT4F9xxVS7qN7dzseeUcMiLjpa Martian 16AquDrvnJ49sUBeyR4Q4SmiLCvB6QGAMW Davux 1HAKFLsiWw2AmPZZsFQk7Y96uqUtmKgR4U Bober182 1FFHATEiptBeXb6UcZZh2KJqF4VzHPCABx Mahkul 13Bp9M1r4o1xyLXSBNRQCMdFVCSfnWv7hE Thor 16ZaypawmtVxYMyUjeP2zP8VFu7Zc3rRpH max-power 1fNRaZbanZx2hePCTe4P5A2tCpww41axB qay 19AjFUUgn3bAo2u6xvnJFLG1wapHN1NLEj hogofwar 13Y1Qm1nU6CPjtSr2NTcsLAT2T28qeMt9u Mati 1FdAv2Um2rTiCjrAAsbsJdXeNBr4K4VXs4 Dekember 1P3qGKngazJ1VZZf2jdkDrPTDsEnmJHNYQ Andrew12

The fw payment should be done in any particular order? The 3 addresses posted after mine? Any 3 addresses posted after mine? Any 3 addresses?
Is this viral or pyramidal? :p

Ok, thinking this through, it only gets interesting if we do pseudo-random donations (viral style). I say pseudo because I'll send first to the people I like, then to those I don't know

Perhaps you are thinking of the movie, "Pay it Forward"?
|
"The powers of financial capitalism had another far-reaching aim, nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole. This system was to be controlled in a feudalist fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreements arrived at in frequent meetings and conferences. The apex of the systems was to be the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland, a private bank owned and controlled by the world's central banks which were themselves private corporations. Each central bank...sought to dominate its government by its ability to control Treasury loans, to manipulate foreign exchanges, to influence the level of economic activity in the country, and to influence cooperative politicians by subsequent economic rewards in the business world."
- Carroll Quigley, CFR member, mentor to Bill Clinton, from 'Tragedy And Hope'

It is up to you. Right! We have enough pyramids already, so I'm going down the viral path... So every time I get one I pay 3, it's just a pitty so few have joined so far, I'm already repeating addresses.

My stats so far: received 3 times within 2 days (including initial tx from noagendamarket), paid it forward 3 time within a few hours of receiving to all 5 addresses that were around at the time (excluding my own, of course). The last transfer I made forward was on the 26th. Today I received 5 (!) transfers from the same generous party... I wonder if that was for real of it's an experiment to see if he can get 5 forward threads going on Values were not discussed on purpose, as they should not matter for whatever this experiment is for. Ok, it's pay back time.

Ok, it's pay back time. there is no master plan at work here. Its a giant game of bitcoin table tennis - or secret santa on steroids . All these micropayments keep the network ticking over ! Obviously as the game grows you could just add up any payments each day and pay that forward 3 times.I lack the copy and paste endurance to make 30 bitcoin payments at a time. Now if someone can come up with a bitcoin hyperlink that launches your address book with the pay to address entered automagically they would earn lots of karma points.

I obviously can't. The reason I stated that was because the RECEIVING address was the same *slaps head*. In my defense, your honor, that happened before my first cup of coffee, and I can't really be held liable for my actions before my first cup of coffee, can I?

Yeah its a pity you cant send a message with each payment.
If you want to send a message with the coin(s) use the ip-address payment system. For some ip-addresses to leave messages to see the other thread here. http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=59.0Only those who either open their firewall/router for the bitcoin port 8333 or have no firewall can receive this way but we can all send messages to them. If you're too lazy to look up addresses in the other thread you can try my ip address: 75.158.131.108 if you leave a note mentioning "pay it forward" then Ill know what its for. If you'd rather just do it the regular way here is another regular bitcoin address: 1Ai3wNTYpmojwcS9pi31h4fRQhMqKuYLY9 This address has a label so I know what its for without a note.

Lets play a game to see what happens. The rules are simple.Create an address called pay it forward and post it in the thread or on your forum profile. When you receive a donation on that address you then donate to 3 other people with a published pay it forward address. The amount you donate to each is unimportant as is the amount you receive.
I got 4 donations to my address, so I then donated to 12 random people on the list. Now I'm realizing that this will blow up pretty soon. I suppose this is your intention to stress the network as an experiment. I'm wondering if maybe you would want to write code to automatically pay it forward when a donation is sent to the pay it forward address, since I will become hard to manually see coins once it starts to blow up...

Dude,I dont write code I just come up with the ideas! I think the better idea is to wait for a period of time, say 1 day or 1 week and then combine what you received into a bigger bang for your donation buck . If someone wants to write the code to do that and contribute to the pay it forward project it would be appreciated. I can host it for you if you do so!

'this' as in the pay it forward project or as in bitcoin? I suppose to give up on 'bitcoin' would be similar to giving up on other types of currencies as well, and in such cases giving them away or destroying them. Or perhaps it's similar to giving up or quitting smoking, in which bitcoin in some way is detrimental to one's health and is necessary to prevent further association with or consumption of. I suppose in the sense that a new currency is existent and is currently limited in use cases compared to already established currencies, many individuals who put little to no effort into developing, contributing or helping to establish its use or future potential may pursue a kind of 'giving up' on Bitcoin since it doesn't meet a kind of expectation of currency as recognized by general society and ease of use of existing dominating currencies. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_currencies is a list of currencies, many in which you may notice several similarities to Bitcoin (e.g. difficult or time consuming to obtain) that could also actively be 'given up' on. However, it is likely that those types of currencies do not garnish any interest or attention and therefore unlikely to be considered as necessary to give up. However, additionally, it may be a currency that one has previously had none of and therefore is not in a position to 'give up' on considering lack of use. Humm, I'm not sure what my point is. I think I'm rambling. I give up. ^_^ lawl nelisky | | \|/

neilskzy...HILARIOUS!!! please remove me from the list, I gave up on this and uninstalled, thanks!
I guess Gatsu finally realized that bitcoin wasn't some magical automatic money making machine , so he "gave up". The only posts I read of his was complaining why bitcoin was not generating money for him...I guess he never reazlied that the purpose of a currency is not to generate money but rather to trade and store wealth that you generated somehow else But yeah, as was mentioned earlier, if you never put any effort into something, how can you possibly "give up" on it? bitcoin != magical money fountain

Well, at least this game is usefull since it reveals the weaknesses, if there are any, of the bitcoin software during intensive small transactions. Maybe you should report all incidents to the dev-team ?

New PIF address for Smartzkid! I finally moved bitcoin over to my server; I donated my current coins away and will start anew from here 1KrPv3fP1D82dGjCGwHy8A8ewyDD6UcCa1 Could someone explain how coins can be split up? The way I understand it, each coin has its own hash. This and the P2P nature of the system mean that imposters cannot 'make' coins. However, what's to keep someone's client from saying 'hey you, i actually own 99% of that coin'?

There is no such thing as a "coin" in the information system. Only transactions. The owner of some value is identified by the knowlegde of the last private key of some transaction in the last block. The amount is the amount of the transaction.

OK, I want to play! 16AquDrvnJ49sUBeyR4Q4SmiLCvB6QGAMW I don't have many BTC so far, but since the idea is to redistribute what one's received, I guess it should work. I wish I could even put more bitcoins into the game so that it becomes more interesting, but I have only 2.05 so far.

The amount is the amount of the transaction. Close, but not quite. You are correct that no actual digital coins exist, and that all balances are basicly the tallies of the transactions recorded upon a massive collective ledger that we call the blockchain. But keypairs don't identify transactions, either; they only identify addresses (which are most like account numbers in the Swiss banking system, the only form of identification that is either neccessary or possible) It is not neccessary for each transaction to have a unique keypair, for example, even though that is a common practice.

I am accumulating the "published bitcoin address for general donations / tips" I think it's better for the tip addresses to be located at the same place as the tippable material. Otherwise they get out of date, or you get confusion between different people who use the same handle, etc. Also, having the tip address at the content is better publicity for bitcoin.

But my "directory" also acts as sort of a starting point. From there you can follow the links which take you to the material. It's a list of content creators who support Bitcoin... with the implicit suggestion that maybe you might want to check out their work... and support them too. I debated about whether to include the actual Bitcoin Addresses or not. I finally decided to include them -- if only for convenience sake. I ask everyone listed to please verify that I have their preferred address listed. And I ask readers to not take my word for it... if they have any doubts whatsoever, please verify the Bitcoin Address directly with the recipient.

Hi Bitcoin Forum,
I have only just read about this bitcoin concept tonight. I'm intrigued, but still rather confused (and admittedly a bit dubious).
However, this game sounds interesting, so I got the client running, and I have an address I'd like to enter into the pool: 16ZaypawmtVxYMyUjeP2zP8VFu7Zc3rRpH.
If I understand correctly about blocks and the numbers thereof, then I might not see a transaction to me before I have got the entire set of blocks right? So, I apologise in advance if there's a delay between any transactions I receive from pay it forward, and my return.
Cheers, Max.

Maybe there should be minimum post level before joining the game. Im surprised this is still going . I totally agree. There are lots of one-post accounts just pasting a random address. It gets worse: most of these accounts are still one-post ones even months after. That's such obvious cheating. Please remove them from the list that's at the beginning of the thread, I mean it's not a lot of money but it kind of ruins the game.

Meh. This is me deliberately not adding my wallet number because I'm still new to this forum. You should only pay it forward if someone is at least a junior member, which is what 100 posts or something? I can understand new people wanting to get bitcoins but what a cheap way to do it....
